Here are 50 reasons someone might be masking in 2025. None of them have to do with anxiety or criminal behavior, and not all of them about COVID. Use them in your accommodations requests or when advocating to protect the right to wear masks/prevent mask bans. open.substack.com/pub/misfitme...

If anyone is looking for something to watch instead of the propaga...I mean, Super Bowl. tubitv.com/movies/67801...

Are you an I ntersectional ally? Excellent! Then if you are able to wear a mask, please mask everywhere you believe medically vulnerable, disabled, chronically ill, and elderly folks have a right to be - even if you don’t see anyone who visibly appears to belong to these groups.

This is heartbreaking and that is the point. Create as much chaos and misery as possible while creating a huge purse of $ to try and plunder.

Happy Black History Month ✊🏾 To kick off this month of celebration, we hope you’ll spread the word about The TRiiBE, a Chicago-based newsroom operating in the tradition of the Black abolitionist press. 💻: thetriibe.com Newsletter: thetriibe.com/newsletters Follow our team ⬇️ go.bsky.app/PWbyhG9

When Trump paused federal funding to all grants and loans, it plunged scientific research into chaos. Though the freeze was rescinded for some sectors, it's still in largely place for universities and research institutions. The damage will be lasting.

The next four years (and whatever comes after it) will undoubtedly be terrible in many ways for many of us. Remember your anger is a tool; let it sharpen you and spurn you to action. Try to resist the allure of hopelessness and helplessness, it’s what those in power are counting on.

I used to work for an elected official as the person who answered their emails. I can tell you from personal experience, if even twenty or thirty people all call an official in a day, they start panicking. This stuff does help.

Maybe I should know better, but I’m surprised at the number of folks who haven’t learned that you need to take someone’s actions into account just as much, if not more, than what they say. Some people will say anything to gain authority and power. Past behavior usually predicts future behavior.*

Understand something: One of the reasons I'm offering this is because Trump's funding freeze is illegal. Do not obey in advance. He's counting on people self evicting. Don't.

Since I’m already getting messages about this…CHICAGO: if you or your org have been affected by today’s freeze pls hit me up at [email protected].

Look at us go #Chicago !!

For every executive order, bill or funding cut that targets marginalized people, let’s counter with an act of kindness. Cut SNAP funding? Give to a community fridge Cut PrEP funding? Give to AIDS organizations. Mask bans? Wear a mask! Attacks on trans rights? Amplify trans creators.

Well, I can hardly believe it, but you can find my latest interview over in @time.com and I hope to write more on this over on Substack soon!

Aside from the fact that “merit-based hiring” is ableist and problematic in the context of it being in opposition to DEI and EEO protections…are we really supposed to believe “merit” is the new measuring stick when this administration is hiring a cabinet full of the most unqualified people possible?

I cackled. 😆

Wow, big surprise. It turns out that getting sick more often does *not* make you stronger, but actually weakens you and makes you more prone to illness. The idea that 'kids just need to be exposed to bugs' needs to die. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

Can’t get much more ironic than this. But it really shows that mutual aid is the future as governments abandon the interests of the poor and working class (and middle class).

I’m worried that the exodus from Meta and Twitter is what they want. To isolate us from each other. Isolation is a big part of autocracy. It makes people easier to lie to and abuse. I don’t have a global answer, but I am working on building a social media space for our podcast listeners.

I’ve been trying to write an article on emergency preparedness when disabled. It’s so hard I would need 10 “go bags” to account for my complex medical needs. I can’t evacuate without assistance. Many places aren’t safe for me Disabled people need to be included in emergency plans

Just a reminder that most disabled people aren’t thought of in natural disaster situations. If you know of a disabled person who is in need of help during evacuations, please check in on them. Many of us are left to fend for ourselves and we’re often the most in need of support.

🚨 VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE YESTERDAY FROM @who.int Pls share

Unless Congress acts in the next three weeks, Medicare will stop covering telehealth. For patients like me, too sick to leave home for months at a time, that would mean losing all access to healthcare.
