That article says that Warren Ellis was the one with the scandal, and Shankar got left off the show unjustly. Here's the article being referenced www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/c...

I dont really like either of these people, but Shankar's work has always been left adjacent. Considering the rest of the show is supposed to be a War on Terror allegory, I dont think hes sincerely on Asmon's side here.
He did attend Trumps 2nd inauguration though so idk

they won't even push for doing something done before effectively alot of the time. So people retreat into the things that made them feel the wonder the first time and the era where games were still small and niche enough as a whole to feel like they had meaning instead of drudging-

It sucks cause when you push to the core of the impulse, you can see a legitimate criticism. Newer games of 'the industry' are commitee designed, and broadly lacking in a strong directorial vision. They already tend to move away from experimentation because of budget, but-

Theres SO MUCH stuff to sort through. Which, isnt necessarily BAD in the sense that more people are able to express and distribute their expression (whether or not it reaches capital success), but it also makes the cacophony of sound harder to tune into.

Yeah. Its a tough call to make because like you said people SHOULD scrutinize and discuss pop culture BECAUSE its popular and wide reaching. But media/"art" coverage and critique NEEDS to dip further to EXPAND the popular culture and introduce new ideas to the public conscience, especially now that-

And the more nuanced expression of the sentiment. I'm really excited to try The End of Gameplay!

I can certainly respect the position, and understand why you feel that way! I imagine alot of those misconceptions come from the diffiulculty of defining this movement. It took me awhile to find this series of posts that REALLY brought me to an appreciation for where this journey has brought you-

But the resistance and its interplay with thematic elements is what makes games so enticing to me when it all comes together! Does every game need to be like this? No, and im excited to explore other spaces of what games can be. But for me, the removal of this resistance is antithetical to my love

Finally the core!! This is fascinating to me because I really like the resistance. Thats where the fun is to me, and to me, its the space where a game made with intention speaks the most. Like you, I dont finish every game I play, and if I sense a lack of depth beyond the resistance, I bolt-

its less obviously draconian. I dont really mean this as shade necessarily despite the admittedly strong wording in the first part of this post, but I can't shake the feeling that for all the artistic positioning, whats being called for is a sidestep and not a step forward. Just how I feel.

I desperately have to know how Slay the Princess doesn't have gameplay. Becuase that game is completely and utterly about looping around to the same things you've seen before to see every iteration of every line of dialogue from every choice you make. Its purposeful, but its definitely gameplay.

Imagine calling a YouTuber transphobic for cutting a character that is at best A trans boy that got walked back from being trans by the author, who very obviously fetishizes trans people in a kind of dehumanizing way 99% of the time (shout out to Kiku), and at worst was deliberate transbaiting

Who do you recommend to point towards interesting game culture? I try to poke around itch and steam or whatever to find interesting stuff, but I usually strike out when I pick something, and thats if something catches my eye in the first place.

Isnt it? At the end of the day theres more video games and mods for video games than a million people could all collectively play in a lifetime. Something comes up and enough people speak loudly that it gains traction. First or best fall to the wayside to visible, and as always the rest fall away

I just dont get the love for B3313, and to a lesser extent CS. Where myhouse feels deliberate and interesting in its subversion, B3313 feels tedious, novelty for novelties sake in a way that just doesnt incite any kind of feeling in me. I want to understand what about these games captures people so.

Its a symptom of capitalism. People only have so much money and time and dont want an experience with too much friction because the money they spend couldve bought food. People get mad, feel cheated, and lash out. It sucks.

I guess, but then doesn't that just mean you pick starve and either give up on art or just die? It sucks but you really cant live harmlessly. If you dont have money you survive off of the harm others cause, and if you do have money, chances are it was earned imperfectly. For now its all we have.

Yeah its interesting how people will turn heel on this. I was the exact demo of teen boy that AAA devs shoot at in 2012 and Japanese games were in a tight spot, especially capcom. Phil Fish said it kinda mean, but people getting turbo mad typically turned around and said the same thing nicer

Could you speak more on this? I can kinda get how you mean with Zelda games; the new ones are specifically looking back at the design of older games, and the stories are all about uncovering the past in order to like, restore or otherwise utilize it. I dont get the same from metroid or mario really.

Sorry, you needed to make the video back when Dressrosa was airing, when the fanbase was still ravenously obsessive but everyone was so fucking sick of Dressrosa you could get away with it.
