Given the 2/3 vote requirement to convict in the senate, actual removal is unlikely. However, the thugs emboldened by the J6 pardons can use these sorts of things as cause to threaten judges and their families, and I fear the executive won’t provide security for them.

WI Supreme Court win on April 1 would not be a flip, but would lock the conservatives out of control of the court until at least 2028, as the 2026 and 2027 elections are for seats currently held by conservatives.

Hopefully a few hours will sort it out automagically 🤞

I accidentally deleted the custom domain settings after everything was good for a couple of months and then it went to invalid handle for me. You definitely need to leave the DNS settings permanently, just in case you deleted after verification.

And yet, “God keep our land glorious and free!” seems to be more needed now than ever.

Do you really want to support a fanbase whose members bark like dogs?

Harry was larger than life, and I am so glad to have been able to call him a friend and to lead the project he founded.

Yes! Just watched it on a flight on Sunday!

The order only applies in the states with dem AGs who sued, so you probably need to keep calling.

What about if it causes an international student to fall below full-time and thus out of compliance with their visa requirements?

Wow, if Mike Lee can recognize that, maybe I should get after Ron Johnson. (Tammy Baldwin and Mark Pocan are generally great, fortunately.)

If you’re returning an empty canister, yes.

Just came across this from a WI-based company! simplisoda.com

If you trade in a canister, I think it’s like $15? Drinkmate says they can use SodaStream canisters, so I’ll probably use those when I need a refill as readily available here.

I just got a drinkmate based on (I think) Wirecutter’s review, and I like that I can carbonate any liquid rather than only water.

Data privacy/protection law would make sense, but Congress’s corporate owners at Meta and Google won’t allow that.

But there’s a five year statute of limitations on the fines, so that seems risky.
comment in response to

Because some corporations took a chance on Trump’s autocratic move of promising not to pursue the fines. You’ll notice that Apple hasn’t restore it in their App Store, but apparently Oracle and Akamai (service providers for TikTok) have been assured the autocrat won’t go after them.

There’s a clause that allowed for 90 days before the ban went into effect. Biden opted not to exercise that, and once the ban went into effect, the law doesn’t contemplate such a period. (The 90 days seems to have been there to allow more time for divestiture to happen if started late.)

This suggests Greece to me. There’s enough in Athens to keep you busy for several days. Important tourist signage is in both Greek and English. Knowing the Greek alphabet and being able to transliterate to match your English map is helpful but not required.

I would probably need a reference sheet for a few games again now. We played soooo much pinochle on long bus trips for school activities when I was in high school though.
comment in response to

I so rarely find anyone else whose family played pinochle! Honestly not sure the last time I was able to play, unfortunately.

We have professional development funds that make attending a big meeting like MathFest or JMM each year completely feasible. We’re also establishing a tradition of attending the WI MAA meeting and taking students.

We get great teaching assignments! Other than the precalculus coordinators (two separate positions), the rest of us teach only calculus or higher. AND, it’s not just huge lectures! This is just my second time in six semesters teaching a class with more than 40 students.

Madison is a great place to live! I ride my e-bike to campus on dedicated bike paths most of the year. We also have a solid (heavily-subsidized for employees) bus system for commuting since parking on campus is limited (and hence expensive).

Our teaching faculty positions come with a lot of job security, despite not being tenure-stream. Six of us left tenured (or comparable) positions at small private or regional comprehensive universities to join the department.

I’m pretty sure we notate withdrawal differently on the transcript, too.
We also have an NW grade, which stands for “no work”. You’re only supposed to assign it when there is absolutely no record of student work (including attendance). These are not systematically analyzed.

Letter grades D or F, Withdraw. (We actually say D/F/Drop at UW because our transcript notation is DR and “withdrawal” means only withdrawing from all courses in a term.)

He has come by to chat about the MGP at both San Fran meetings we’ve had a booth. He and Jill are by far our top donors (and most reliable).

Were they in the room? I once woke someone up coming into a room that was already occupied. Feel like it was a DC JMM or MathFest.

The analyst kept mispronouncing it with an s sound and bugging this Bison fan. We say it with a z sound and ESPN has usually got the memo, fortunately.

I thought it was super dumb to punt and risk giving up a return, but Vigen had an even dumber idea.
