40% is roughly the number of adults who don't follow politics much, so there's bound to be plenty of folks polled who just don't know what's going on. Which doesn't excuse their ignorance! But it may be reflexive partisan leaning/name recognition more than explicit approval of Trump's actions.

Absolutely. I have some academic background in AI as well, and these things are not ready for prime time. the whole deployment of them for widespread & public use has been rushed, careless, and, IMO, egregiously unethical.

These LLMs, like any AI trained on machine learning algorithms, are only as good as the care taken in the selection, administration, and evaluation of their training data and its resulting outputs. AFAICT, the big ones have been trained with an indiscriminate fire hose of content, resulting in slop.
