The links between OG FFVII’s Nibelheim and Norse mythology can be seen with the Odin Materia, the Rune Blade, and its name (based on Niflheimr). Remake continued the trend by including characters from an old runic alphabet on the outfit of Tifa, herself born in Nibelheim. #FinalFantasymythology

Happy birthday, Tifa! To celebrate, I've shared a piece that explains the symbolism behind her association with the Moon. Please do read and share! www.patreon.com/posts/tifa-lockhart-128059282

With the first volume of my new book, Mythos: Final Fantasy XVI, launching later this summer, I will soon be disabling general pre-orders via Kickstarter. If you’d like to claim one of the final spots on the early edition, you can do at www.kickstarter.com/projects/mjg... Thanks for your support.

EVERYTHING is Final Fantasy. But some things are more Final Fantasy than others. In this video, I take a look at the Top 10 Final Fantasies...that technically aren't #FinalFantasy...

In Norse myth, the universe contains nine realms. Midgard, the world of men, is located at the centre of it all. Similarly, Final Fantasy VII’s Midgar is Gaia’s economic and political capital, comprised of nine sectors (0-8), with Shinra HQ located in Sector 0 at its centre. #FinalFantasymythology

Rumor: Yuji Horii confirms Chrono Trigger Remake at Comicon in Naples "The father of Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger let this information slip during an interview. The host whispered something in his ear, and he covered his mouth. The audience went crazy" PLEASE BE TRUE reddit.com/r/GamingLeak...

In Greek and Egyptian lore, the phoenix was an immortal bird believed to burst into flames at death, only to be reborn from the ashes. During Crisis Core, the Phoenix Materia is acquired in Nibelheim, a town later burned to the ground by Sephiroth, then rebuilt from the ashes.

Happy birthday to the creative genius that is Yoshi P. A legend in our time.

To celebrate the 35th anniversary of Final Fantasy III, I've written a fun wee article about the awesome water-themed myth references crammed into the game. It's available to all at www.patreon.com/posts/happy-final-3-127839972 Please give it a read and share the post if you can.

If you look up the definition of ‘aesthetically comforting’ in the dictionary, you’ll find a photo of Expedition 33’s overworld

Happy 35th anniversary to Final Fantasy III. I had a wonderful time with the Pixel Remaster and will probably write a little myth piece about it tonight.

In Hinduism, Garuda is a birdlike deity believed to be the enemy of all serpents. Garuda fiends in Final Fantasy VII also have avian features and are fought at the Da-Chao monument in Wutai, whose patron deity is the water serpent Leviathan. #FinalFantasymythology

Damn, it's a great feeling to see these out in the wild and actually given good play. All the best.

We are incredibly thrilled to have @tylorhepnerart.bsky.social feature as part of The Guardians of the Crystal. This incredible piece of original art will frame Bahamut, and will also come packaged as a print alongside the BAHAMUT Edition. Follow the project: www.kickstarter.com/projects/fin...

If Geoff Keighley doesn't give Clair Obscur the full 11 minutes to put on a live performance at The Game Awards of "Une vie Ă  t'aimer" then we must all riot until he cedes his throne

Unbelievable achievement

I ran a poll after my FFXVI book campaign to ask backers which project they'd like to see on Kickstarter next. There was a runaway winner. However, second place is tied between 'Final Fantasy VII and the Trojan War' and 'Norse Myths That Inspired Final Fantasy VIII'. Interesting…

Tonight, I’ll be streaming the Prologue of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and giving you a mini-“lecture-play” to help you enjoy your time with the game. Not only is Clair Obscure good— it’s “Final Fantasy caliber, let-me-do-a-lecture” good. See you at 7:30pm CDT on Twitch.

Coffee art at its absolute finest

When you’re excited for Final Fantasy Seventeen but what you get is Final Fantasy Seven Teen

Say what now?

It was lovely to share a few insights into my writing process…

One of my favourite moments in FFVII Rebirth is Cait Sith and Cissnei paying their respects to the Gongaga Reactor tragedy. Chapter 20 of Before Crisis includes Cait Sith helping the player Turk investigate the ruined facility - and Cissnei is one of the optional characters.

Happy Easter! I wish you every success in your battle to secure the egg.

Happy Easter, FFVII fans!

In Greek myth, Hermes is the god of messengers, travellers, and thieves. He is also credited with inventing the lyre, a musical instrument made with a turtle shell. In FFVII Remake's DLC, materia thief Yuffie has journeyed to Midgar as a Wutaian envoy, and tracks down music for the Happy Turtle rep.
