Now that it's preregistered, super excited to get started on this project! Using a yoked design, @danlucen.bsky.social, @mjgruber.bsky.social and I will ask whether the benefits of curiosity are direct, or dependent on the ability to actively engage in curiosity-guided exploration.

Dear neuroimagers, here is the Welsh Advanced Neuroimaging Database (WAND) - a new 170-participant multi-modal neuroimaging dataset from the team at CUBRIC. McNabb et al. (2025) www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Our lab is hiring a post doc! We are looking specifically for someone with machine learning research experience to contribute to funded simulation projects on learning and/or replay. Please share, and email me if you are interested!!

We've been able to collect data from hundreds of LGBTQIA+s in neuro/psych, but the vast majority of them are in the US. We're hoping to get a more diverse sample. If you are in academia outside of the US, please share this and consider sending it to colleagues who may be interested.

Past BNA President, John Aggleton, has published a remarkable book dedicated to his late son, who passed away from a brain tumour. In honour of this, all royalties from the book will be donated to @braintumourrsch.bsky.social 20% discount from Routledge in January. routledge.com/Memory-and-t...

🚨 New fMRI preprint from our lab 🚨 "Brain dynamics during architectural experience: prefrontal and hippocampal regions track aesthetics and spatial complexity" Led by Lara Gregorians with co-authors, Zita Patai, Pablo Fernandez Velasco & Fiona Zisch. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... #neuroskyence

"The relationships between curiosity and wellbeing: a systematic review" Alisa Priemysheva thoroughly reviewed the literature to synthesise our current knowledge of how different types of curiosity might affect wellbeing. osf.io/preprints/ps...

🚨 New funded PhD position at UCL 🚨 Funding is provided for a PhD student in our new centre to help work with Fiona Zisch & Sean Hanna to apply agent-based-modelling to analyse the crazy data set from 100+ people navigating a giant maze in PEARL. See details: www.ucl.ac.uk/bartlett/arc...

Across two studies using desktop VR, curiosity determined how much humans explored and how well the hand-drawn spatial maps they acquired corresponded to the rooms @cjhodgetts.bsky.social, @mjgruber.bsky.social, @danlucen.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/s44...

"Curiosity shapes spatial exploration and cognitive map formation in humans." We are excited to share this novel paradigm and findings on curiosity-based exploration. This project was led tirelessly by @danlucen.bsky.social in collaboration with @cjhodgetts.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/s44...

Still looking for a book to read over the holidays? "Memory and the Brain: Using, Losing, and Improving." A new popular science book on memory written by the great John Aggleton! I just ordered my copy and can't wait to start reading. www.routledge.com/Memory-and-t...

Please repost! Open PhD position on curiosity and metacognition across childhood and adolescence with the amazing @yanafandakova.bsky.social at the University of Trier (Germany). The project is part of a cool international collaboration. :-) #DevPsych #PsychSciSky #neuroskyence #neurojobs

Proud of my first contribution to memory research: “Brain and eye movement dynamics track the transition from learning to memory-guided action” out in @currentbiology.bsky.social, great team effort together with Janina Klingspohr, Marcel Kehl & Bernhard Staresina. www.cell.com/current-biol...

Thank you so much to @sabinehunnius.bsky.social for inviting me to speak and share our findings and future research ideas on curiosity-based learning in development.

I want to draw attention to a special issue that Lila Davachi and I put together to memorialize our friend and colleague Sarah DuBrow. It’s full of papers inspired by her work and her being from a group of collaborators, friends, and fans! Thanks @bradpostle.bsky.social for helping make this happen.

**We are recruiting** Seeking a postdoc to work on a Wellcome-funded cohort study focusing on social-cognitive processing in typically developing children and adolescents (aged 8-18 years) and children and adolescents with 22q11.1 deletion syndrome. www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/49291/

We now publish rich fMRI data in Scientific Data where participants viewed magic trick videos. Curiosity, memory, and reward manipulation are available: www.nature.com/articles/s41... This is a result of incredible effort by Stef Meliss (first author). Congrats!!

I just set up @jcogneurosci.bsky.social ; at some point it will post papers as they publish, if folks want to friend that account. thx

Great new article in Scientific American on the current state of research on curiosity-based learning. www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-...

My first postdoc @hkjach.bsky.social's main work has been finally published!! We assessed lots of curiosity personality traits and information-seeking task behaviors and examined the relationship. See what we found... www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

Happy to share an updated version of our paper, which explores how everyday variability in social and spatial experiences influences how we perceive events. In collab w/ @drberry.bsky.social, Mark Postans, and Angharad Williams. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... #neuroskyence #PsychSciSky

How do DA and 5HT drugs alter reinforcement learning? Join us next Wednesday for talks by @anahitm.bsky.social, Diego Pizzagalli, Michael Browning, Roshan Cools, Emma Robinson, Yael Niv, Cath Harmer, Isabel Berwian, @nathanieldaw.bsky.social and Anne Collins. Links etc: acplab.org/2024/11/15/r...

I am pleased to share that @yanafandakova.bsky.social (Trier, Germany), Pierre-Yves Oudeyer (Bordeaux, France), and I (Cardiff, UK) received a collaborative Open Research Area (ORA) grant to study curiosity-based learning across childhood and adolescence. We will soon recruit at all three sites!
