The PURRING

"Richard III might be the most famous example of the odd practice of exhumation and reburial." new on the blog TODAY! Bring Out Your Dead: Exhumation and Reburial by @megelison.bsky.social psychopomp.com/bring-out-yo...

When you find out the bar was set, met and never surpassed 1700 years ago.

I am SO excited for this project to emerge from its coccoon! Over the last year I collaboratively wrote (and am writing) 11 stories with 11 authors as well as a non-fiction essay/interview about how we did it & the craft techniques we used. I hope this craft book will be both educational *and* fun!

I truly adored this @clarkesworldmagazine.com story by @reasie.bsky.social - decryption by fiber art, knitting from a pattern that's a code that's a piece of art, like the Voyager Golden Record itself 🌌 clarkesworldmagazine.com/vibbert_05_25/

I don’t want to “streamline” my writing. I don’t want to “increase my output.” I don’t want to “write a novel with one click.” I want to write stuff only I can write. I want to read and write novels with soul and heart and a unique voice. Fuck AI. Long live real writers.

There are at least four wolves inside me and all of them want me to be pursuing different hobbies right now.

That's an essay crisis face if ever I saw one.

If you only read one thing this weekend, this moving piece by @archiebland.bsky.social might be it.

the real reason I keep social media in this benighted age is because occasionally someone will say "I liked this thing you wrote", and a single kindness like that can keep the creative candles lit for days after the oil runs out

I've seen this and the reconstruction in person, it's gorgeous. Both the cloth of the hood and the fancier decorative band were repurposed, and the band's too short - there's a gap at the back. Still, someone wanted to decorate a kid's hood, and they did the best they could ❤️

It’s Mary Anning’s birthday, so time to share @katebeaton.bsky.social’s brilliant cartoon again.

I’m gonna say this a little more loudly: there is no “exception” for GenAI usage if you support artists, writers, musicians, the planet, poor communities polluted by the generators, etc. None. Your “silly little uses” are still exploiting everyone and fucking everything up. Full stop. Thread.

Some interesting stats on # of subs vs acceptances for mags I’ve sent the most short fic to 👀‼️ Clarkesworld: 30-0 The Dark: 29-12 The Dread Machine: 29-4 Apex Magazine: 27-1 Strange Horizons: 22-0 F&SF: 19-1

This is going to be an absolute car crash, the Supreme Court verdict looks more absurd by the day www.thetimes.com/article/86fb...

This entire thread gives you hope: transphobia is not the majority perspective in parliament nor in the public.

Study begun pre-COVID finds remote work increased sleep by 1/2 hr/night, decreased commute by 4.5 hr/week replaced with work, family & leisure and led to healthier eating. Remote and hybrid employees report higher job satisfaction and well-being. farmingdale-observer.com/2025/05/16/s...

Guidelines were described as: “fuelling a culture of hostility and suspicion towards abortion and pregnancy loss”. We can see where this is leading…

Definitely a couple details to improve for next time (sealskin blends a bit too close to sky and I somehow carved out the second arm 🙈) but enjoyed doing this wee selkie lino while sitting out watching the sea today 🌊🦭

This kitten looks exactly like he's been asked to present something on less than thirty seconds' notice and he's going to have to wing it. But in a cute and fluffy way!

This is so cool. As textiles are generally a rarer archeological find, they are always special. #weaving #fiberarts #history #archeology #AncientTextiles #scotland #Lochs #OakbankCrannog substack.com/home/post/p-...
