Sounds like theist arguments.

What are these "very silly and/or barely defensible reasons"?

The 'religious experience' can be interpreted many ways, depending on context. So yes, I consider it ambiguous. Until you explain the context.
"People use the word to describe a broad range of experience and behavior nowadays."
You've made my point for me, anyway.
“religious” organizations.

(Don't interpret that as harassing them.)
Usually, the person crying "that's fascism!" to the extent you do, either doesn't know what the word means or just sees fascism everywhere.
Anyway. Block if you want, I'm done with this convo. Have a nice life. :)

Religion (especially the mainstream ones) exists because of centuries of bloodshed, indoctrination, rape, etc. Someone sitting in their room, minding their own business, is innocent of this, but they are also a product of it.
And I will call it out, regardless.

Obviously, again, feel free to block me for saying this. I do believe people can do whatever the fuck they want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.
But you're clearly the type who doesn't think individual worship has any harm whatsoever.

There's a lot of almost-name calling in your new thread. Calling people who criticise religion "privileged" etc. A lot of the points you made are things you wouldn't know about someone without knowing their life story.
Honestly, your list of "don't do this" sounds as narrow-minded as you call us.

Yes I just read it. It's comprehensive, close-minded, and narrow-minded. You block people for simply saying things you don't agree with? Hm.
You might as well block me because I'm not going to change my opinions for you.

That was an insightful post.

What is your threshold for intolerance? Is it people opposing it or not being respectful?
And what is your definition of respect?
I ask this because many theists who make statements like yours online seem to think I'm a horrible person for not agreeing with them. Is that your point here?

So do you ascribe to the origins of the word or do you prefer it to be ambiguous?
Just curious. :)

Also possible it came from the Middle English 'religioun' which came from the Old French 'religion'. Modernising old words can make things confusing.
Anyhow. Curiosity sated. :)

I respect that it has become a very modern take, to separate the ways the word can be used. Perhaps I'm hung up on the fact that the word religion (from 'religio' in Latin) originally meant "respect for what is sacred, reverence for the gods".

Do you think the 'religious experience' can exist without the concept of religion?

Nope. And it goes both ways, too.

'I don't have an answer.'
And:
'I don't care to find out, just believe whatever someone tells me.'

I saw an American politician say something similar in a youtube video that was dressing them down for it.

As long as you're not waiting on him to swoop in on Judgement Day and trying to force your beliefs on others, or harming others, we're all good.

Eh. He'd be a sceptic, imo, who won't take the atheist label. Just condemn the religious fanatics.
