In the 19th century, slave states banned foreign & domestic free Black sailors claiming they were "moral contagions" spreading dangerous ideas of freedom to the enslaved population. Same states also banned US mail from the N for same reason. My article abt the rationale. cc @paulgowder.bsky.social

Louisiana prosecutors have secured the indictment of a New York doctors who prescribes and mails medication abortion to Louisiana patients. It's a major test of New York's shield law, which prohibits state officials from enforcing these charges or any resulting conviction. apnews.com/article/abor...

From a journalist friend: Just spreading the word. The CDC is purging data, so people should archive their favorite CDC datasets today, namely ones around race/ethnic diversity, LGBTQ, and reproductive health. Also health data involving climate. The youth risk behavior survey has already gone down.

Haven't seen much discussion of the death penalty EO. Interestingly, it implicates not only the usual death penalty law/policy concerns (lethal injection, evolving standards, etc.) but also the conditions of confinement that people in custody "deserve" based on their offenses.
