Off topic, but have you seen this? How do you think it applies to the NSF “DEI” purge reviews?

Sorry to bother you again, but have you seen this ruling? I wonder what this means for NSF and NIH “DEI” purge reviews?

But PIs (preliminary) are not permanent, correct, so we will see it coming back (to be argued) at some point? Also, I guess this means that some form of these cases resting on the principle of executive abuse will get to SCOTUS?

Whenever you have time, I have a question: These temporary pauses can’t be a lasting solution since they are temporary. It seems to be there needs to be one or two major cases that decide for good whether the administration is abusing executive power & violating the constitution with these orders.

From what I’m gathering (although I am loathe to make conclusions on this basis) from what I can read into the judge’s comments/tone he seems more likely than not to side with plaintiffs? Or am I totally off?

There is a hearing happening RIGHT NOW on a lawsuit about the attacks on medical and scientific research. It is a violation of already existing TRO and depending on what happens with this case, maybe more.

True, but I think it’s particularly bad in FL. I mean the way that state turned from competitive to anything but, plus I heard some stuff about the Dem operation down there. I lived in NC — heavily gerrymandered also — but the state party there has turned it around some.

For sure, I’m not suggesting they not try, just that it’ll be really uphill. That whole Dem Party operation in FL has needed a serious overhaul for a while now.

They’re not winning the FL seats. Polling suggests that’s a losing game. Stefanik’s though, they have a chance at.

Great ideas can come from anywhere, and congressional legislation (e.g., CHIPS and Science Act) has directed the NSF toward the goal of broadening participation in science. Researchers can organize and approach the legal counsel at their universities for clarifications on their activities. (14)
