signal priority is generally woeful, as it is for public transport pretty much everywhere in Melbourne

there are some decent stretches of bus lanes on Hoddle st and in the CBD on Lonsdale St, but they're used for parking off-peak so not very effective. quite a few queue jump lanes at massive suburban arterial intersections but not nearly enough. and there is a handful of bus hook turns (of course)

it's sad we don't have any in Melbourne anymore (and there's barely any bus lanes to use them on) because we were so good at the comms when we did in the 80s

skybus is by all accounts good. if you want to save money try the 901 bus to Broadmeadows and then a train into the city for a standard Myki fare but it takes a while. if you're going to be staying somewhere in the middle suburbs to the west or north a taxi/uber will be much quicker

the only reason that could even vaguely make sense (beyond urban design, but the impact of wires is so overblown) is that it's harder to string wires off the side of buildings if you don't already have existing arrangements, but then just string them off a light pole!
comment in response to post
I still never quite understood why NSW was so focused on avoiding wires when no other modern light rail project in the country has cared

I have seen two UFOs in my life and both of them where when I was like less than 10 years old and massive sleep deprived. one time they made the moon look like a cartoon rocketship it had a big moon triangle on top. definitely not a hallucination don't know what you're talking about
