Just a reminder that these are the people purporting to be outraged by antisemitism on campus. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/11/u...

The thing Ambassador Spock understands is: he cannot control if they’re going to kill him—& they probably ARE going to kill him. He can only control what HE does. Columbia’s problem is they still think they can escape Trump’s retaliatory funding cuts. They probably can’t, in any short-term sense.

This Pesach has some serious 2020 vibes, but a Zissen Pesach nonetheless.

A lot of Black people greatly underestimate the things they do that Harriet would have shot them for. 🤷🏽‍♀️ They also don’t read Audre Lorde, cuz if ChatGPT ain’t a tool of the masters, IDK what is.

Look, I’ve been in higher ed for close to 30 years. One thing I’ve learned is that thinking your sacrifice will be rewarded is a losing game. If you don’t stick up for yourself, your colleagues, your students, your department, your college, and your mission, you will be strangled to death.

Today, my administration recommended a plan to effectively starve & shutter the English MA at my college: the only public higher education institution in RI (or even in the region) that offers a viable public Creative Writing graduate degree.

People will argue that we should be willing to defy the law in the name of justice while also treating criminalized people as disposable. It's incoherent.

If you are choosing at this moment to make people's lives harder, there is something wrong with you.

Every time someone talks about the rise of autism diagnoses It think about how the first person to be diagnosed died two years ago and then my mind flashes this chart like a strobe light

Media challenge: try writing headlines without using the word "antisemitism". Stop using Trump's framing for his authoritarian actions. "Trump administration now monitoring immigrant social media" would be shorter and more accurate, since no-one really believes this is about anti-semitism.

If a visa applicant has social media posts invoking George Soros as a boogeyman, will the application be denied? No, because this isn't about fighting antisemitism.

The idea that higher education is highly censorious and extremely hostile to conservatives is an elite project. Most students don’t think this.

The future of academic labor depends on us being able to articulate our job and our refusal to offload it onto machines.

The resegregation of the US isn't just being promoted in the South, where it never really went away. Right here in RI folx are working to undermine public education and install private and supernatural-based academies for white kids. Keep your eyes on the school committees, please.

the academic viewpoint inclusion gambit *never* goes the other way--that marxists get affirmative placement in business schools, anarchists in law schools, or pacifists in military academies

#academicsky In case you have been censored:

A big lesson I hope folks can learn quickly is the difference between reclaiming an oppressive phase and accepting an oppressor’s ideology. “We’re here, we’re queer, get used to it” reclaims a slur by trading shame for pride. “Lock him up” accepts a fascistic frame of cruelty and expands it.

As Dara Horn writes, & this piece illustrates, a common failure of Holocaust & genocide education is that it focuses on the evil people did at some time in the past. It is a story of a tragedy some survived, a tragedy that we didn't have to endure. We say "never again" but never what?

There’s been a definite decrease in the availability of Passover groceries this year, & that's pre-tarriffs. Stores were even short on potato chips.

This is definitely a top 5 from today

Male way for ducklings ready to help mend our broken world.

“I see protest as a genuine means of encouraging someone to feel the inconsistencies, the horror, of the lives we are living. Social protest is to say that we do not have to live this way." — Audre Lorde

I 💚 PVD.

Asks to Universities/colleges are 3-fold: (1) daily check to see if visas have been revoked (2) provide immigration counsel upon visa revocation, & (3) keep students enrolled. @aaup.bsky.social
