I think ai wasted energy is kinda a dumb argument. If you want to argue against it then argue against it directly (I for one am in the camp that ai is bad because capitalism sucks not because ai sucks inherently)
comment in response to post
I guess by definition all usage of energy is "wasting" it then? Unlike crypto people use ai for things and if the talk of powering ai centers thru nuclear is real then it'll have almost no environmental impact either

did he say this? would love to be proven wrong genuinely

Seriously half the country thinks trans people are some TikTok fad ran by people who want to perv in women's bathrooms. Practically all the media is on our side and we can't fucking use it

Guys I think it might be a bit dramatic that Trump will execute all his political opponents

We have a chance to make it a 4-yearly tradition but the Dems are too "responsible" and "normal" smh

Yeah bluesky was smart to go all-in on moderation from the start. from what i gather nostr needs more central development for things like mod tools lest it end up like Linux with 50,000 distros and dev teams all trying to do the same thing
comment in response to post
I mean global in-app. Imagine if you wanted to email someone on yahoo and you had to subscribe to the yahoo relay to send an email from your gmail account. Does Nostr have support for a global firehose like bluesky does or nah?
comment in response to post
Makes sense. Does Nostr allow you to move all your data from one host to another? hows the data hosting model work in comparison to blueskys PDS's (if you know)?
comment in response to post
yeah I was wrong about Nostr having no moderation. thanks for you and ‪‪@alltheseas.bsky.social‬‬ teaching me about it. I much prefer blueskys user-centric moderation i agree its fantastic and very needed. Nostr kinda has user-centric moderation but also relay centric right?
comment in response to post
Doing more research RN does nostr not save posts? Do the relays just drop them after a while? I'm reading they do which is a big problem for obvious reasons
comment in response to post
Lack of incentives to run relays could also be an issue in a real adoption scenario but bluesky also has no solution for this either but it's worth mentioning
comment in response to post
Lack of UX, I shouldn't have to know how it works to use it (how do you even use nostr?). No real system of moderation (seeing Nazi race science for Haitians on Twitter made me realize that online moderation might be a good thing) Issues similar to AP where all your friends might be on another relay
comment in response to post
Does nostr have any system of 2FA or emails required for sign in? From what I've read it just requires a private key right? That's what I'm trying to argue against by comparing the security issue of that w/ blockchain. Blue sky has account security on top of cryptography (emails 2FA etc)

Btw I have to say this site's char limit is atrocious LET ME TALK ABOUT THINGS IN DEPTH
comment in response to post
I'm majoring in comp sci so I know a thing or two about protocols like this. No one's mislead me I came to the conclusion I didn't like nostr myself for the same reasons I don't like blockchain. Nostr is certainly a step in the right direction but it fails where blue sky succeeds
comment in response to post
I'm shitting on *just* relying on cryptographic security by itself which as you said is what block chain does
comment in response to post
nostrs protocol is based (directly?) on bitcoin and cryptocurrency so the two are an apt comparison i think. what happens if someone steals your private key? they own your identity now? then this "ownership" isnt worth shit.
comment in response to post
Does putting all your cryptocurrency in a bank who holds the keys not defeat the whole point of cryptocurrency
comment in response to post
Imagine you misplace your house keys and then your house is sealed from anyone entering for the rest of time. How are cryptobros real lol
comment in response to post
Crypto is the funniest shit in the universe it's literally rich guys selling poor people numbers on computers
comment in response to post
It would just shuffle around some USDC that's already sitting in cold wallets would it not? I'd be surprised if USDC depegged from everyone selling

not if they don't use advertising. then their incentives would be improving the site for end users instead of for advertisers. Enshittification is almost entirely a result of advertising
comment in response to post
I do think its possible even with atp that it can be walled off in a sort of gmail-like scenario. IE similar to how gmail conquered email by providing the service free at a loss, monopolizing it, then walling off anyone who didnt comply to their rules. not doing ads would maybe prevent this tho
comment in response to post
honestly this is the one thing that makes me believe in the site

Very clear linear growth. In a few hundred years blue sky will have trillions of users!

It's definitely not the only one but it's one of the main problems. You can't even swear on YouTube it's so bad and corporatized
comment in response to post
It's the advertisers fault. Only advertising on "brand safe" content pretty much killed the internet
comment in response to post
Ah good point. I don't realistically see ai art simply being banned so I guess all ai art being public domain and protesting against ai art is the next best thing
