Happy Valentine's Day! Today's new Historical #Dictionary of #ScienceFiction entry: _romantasy_. Primarily an extremely recent publishing category blending #romance and fantasy, but examples go back to 2008, with much earlier antecedents. sfdictionary.com/view/2940/ro...

Insane that Neuromancer was William Gibson’s debut novel

“silicone valley built the modern world” yeah no shit look how bad it is

new trend of folks rushing the subway before others can get off. Actually maybe the evangelicals are right and we should all go to hell.

The NYT asked me to write an op-ed on Musk and the Treasury and then took a pass. I hope it will still get read.

Today I'm announcing a plan to unleash the public sector and build the housing we desperately need. As Mayor, I will triple New York City's production of permanently affordable, union-built, rent-stabilized homes, constructing 200,000 new units over the next decade.

An anonymous person at the CDC just archived all the public CDC datasets as of 1/28 and uploaded it to archive.org

i think this should be factored into how states, counties, localities and hospitals respond to these executive orders. "we will investigate you if you teach DEI." okay, with what agents, specifically? with what state capacity?

revising for pacing is such an interesting mind fuck.

The mid-sentence tense shift that takes places in the first paragraph of " The Story Of Your Life" is a decision that foreshadows the entire structure of the piece while also teaching the reader how to engage with the story's conception of time. one of my favorite opening moves.

This is an excellent question! I think indeed a Great American Novel has to be one that is about "American-ness," to the extent that removing from the context of the United States would mortally injure the story. A Great American Novel has to have US terroir as a major component, as it were.

Imagine reading Game of Thrones and then being inspired to write . . . The English Understand Wool. I am in love with this woman’s mind.

Reading Helen DeWitt on the commute home. Her prose feels like lowering yourself into icy water of unfathomable depth. Something special and scary.

You have to admit this is the funniest cover of the year
