If you want to be really good at something you have to be willing to fail. Being will to fail is easier when you have a strong sense of self. Having a strong sense of self requires not identifying with the outcomes of your efforts.

Something few people understand is that peak performance generally comes from a place of love not fear. A big, fierce, and open heart lends itself to breakthrough.

Performance is about holding onto contrasting forces. We must... -Care deeply, but let go -Try hard, but be relaxed -Set big goals, but be able to let go of the outcome -Be obsessive on the field, but able to take the jersey off. -Identify with our pursuit, but don't attach

❤️ growth mindset gives so much more room for improvement and mastery ❤️ "yet" is one of my favourite hope words - the magic of possibility 😊

What we're sold: You are not enough. Do (and buy) all this stuff and then you'll be enough, maybe even live forever. The truth: You are enough, even though you may not feel like it. It's okay, most of us are that way. It is hard to be a human. The secret is there is no secret.

Small consistent efforts beat grand sporadic bursts every time.

Process mindset: 1. Set a goal. 2. Figure out the steps to achieving it that are within your control. 3. Mostly forget about the goal and focus on nailing the steps instead. 4. If you catch yourself obsessing about the goal, use it as a cue to get back to doing the work itself.

An analysis of over 70,000 people finds focusing on extrinsic goals over intrinsic is associated with ill-being Chasing external validation leads to languishing Stop chasing the awards, accolades, fame, or money. Pursuing mastery leads to thriving Fall in love with the process amzn.to/40ZDeN5

Process over outcome. Process over outcome. Process over outcome. 99.999 percent of life is the process. Outcomes are fleeting, the destination a mere moment in time. Focus on the path. That's where life is lived and excellence is forged.

We're recruiting Canadian student-athletes to do an anonymous 20-min survey about well-being in university sport. It would mean a lot if you could share this invitation & participate if you're eligible. Participants can enter a prize draw for 1 of 2 $100 Amazon gift cards lnkd.in/gKux-wCr

People overestimate what they can accomplish in a day and underestimate what they can accomplishment in a year, let alone a decade. Progress is non-linear. It includes peaks, valleys, and plateaus. This is why consistency and patience are crucial.

Hardiness is a psychological trait that can be developed. It has 3 prongs: 1) Commitment: Accept situation. Don't turn away, lean in. 2) Control: Figure out what you can do. Take productive action. 3) Challenge: View life as an ongoing process in which change is inevitable.

Happy National Girls and Women in Sports Day! We’ve come a long way, tons more progress to be made…but we need to be vigilant for those who want to take away Title IX. A new Open Court. #ngwsd #sports open.substack.com/pub/joannecg...

Today is National Girls & Women in Sports Day! As an athlete, a former athletic administrator who specialized in gender equity, and a supporter of women’s sports, I thought I’d put together a list of some of my favorite books about, for, and by women in sports. #NGWSD 📚

Cheat sheet on sustainable success: Be patient Focus on the process Pursue meaning not happiness Surround yourself wisely Work hard Rest hard Ignore “hacks” Get coaching Be OK with failure Practice self-discipline Practice self-compassion Know where you’re going Be where you are

Progress is often slow, non-linear, and more challenging than you think. Popular culture says it should be fast, predictable, and easy. Ignore this. Be patient. Surround yourself with a supportive community. Remember that the goal is the path and the path is the goal.

It takes curiosity to learn. It takes courage to unlearn. Learning requires the humility to admit what you don't know today. Unlearning requires the integrity to admit that you were wrong yesterday. Learning is how you evolve. Unlearning is how you keep up as the world evolves.

Good enough is usually good enough. Good enough over and over again—that's how you get to great. Culture loves heroic efforts. Heroic efforts are how you burnout. Great outcomes love consistency. Consistency is how you play the long game.

Progress isn’t always about getting better. Sometimes it’s about bouncing back. Success is not only the peaks you reach—it’s the valleys you conquer. Every experience of enduring adversity and overcoming obstacles is a meaningful accomplishment. Resilience is a form of growth.

High performance under pressure is so often stumbled upon when a competitor’s main objectives are related to joy more so than a yearning to win… To love to move To love to execute actions To love to team To love to immerse in a game To love to be challenged To love a test

New year, new platform! 💙 Hoping to reconnect with the wonderful community I originally found on the other place 😉 Wishing everyone a fabulous 2025 & beyond 🎉
