I feel the same way. I've channeled my restless energy into the Mongoose Studios endeavor. So far it has generated zero dollars, but infinitely more satisfaction than my last day job.
On my "days off" and "after work" I still job hunt, but it's a drag. Studio project time is energizing.

These are absolutely incredible. And I do not say that lightly.

"I don't like this result" is an exciting thing! It means you're getting out of your comfort zone.
Sit down and have a chat with yourself. What don't you like about the result? Start learning how to fix one thing at a time.
Repeat until you DO like the result. :)

Is this heresy?
I'm pretty sure it's heresy.

Trying to push new techniques is the first and most important step. As long as you keep doing that you will improve.
Worry about blending later, good highlighting will look fantastic on a table and help build confidence in the process.

Minis, of course. =)

Assembly of minis often requires a blood sacrifice. It's just one of those things.

Best advice I can give is from when I quit smoking. You know it's gonna suck, so just embrace the suck and power through.

Thinking about quitting caffeine gives me anxiety and racing thoughts.

Thanks! I struggled with it a bit myself, mostly because of my aversion to black on minis, it's just not interesting.
Decided I'd aim for a "workmanlike" vibe and super pleased with how that worked out.

Confirmed, I can only aspire to this level of cool.

Your show is on my list to check out too, I just haven't had the time. Mini painting time is actual play listening time and I'm excited to check it out!

I like too many of them! <3 Critical Role for sure.
I liked GCN's Starfinder and Giantslayer games a lot. The on again off again nature of their newer stuff kinda put me off of them.
Naddpod is good, Dimension 20 is fantastic but harder to consume because Dropout.

That sucks. Glad you're still here and wishing you a speedy recovery.

Pretty typical of your work from what I have seen. Pretty tidy, nice vibrant colors.
If you're asking because you want to push your painting further I'd probably say focus first on highlights and shading.

IMO the transparency and being able to see the menu behind it is causing it to look cluttered. Also the last two boxes don't line up with the first.

A before and after would be rad. For us and for you.

Might look a little guardsman-ey, if that doesn't matter to you then yeah I could see it.
I also think you're still gonna have the same issues with those dudes of trying to get contrast in without looking kinda silly in a "please shoot me in my tender tummy bits" way.

I mostly recall being immensely frustrated at spending all my turn getting my party to places where they could actually do things while being punched in the face.
Style was OK, but apparently my subconscious liked the plague doctor enough to store her color scheme. XD

I played 7 hours of it 2 years ago. But damn it, you're right. I was looking at crazy old pictures of plague doctors and reaching for a color scheme more interesting than the traditional all black and went this way with it.

Kinda an awkward thing to paint in general. They went too hard on the Robocop inspiration I think. Armor doesn't cover their stomachs so I suspect any contrast there is gonna look wonky.
Light grey would totally work for the arms though to fit the "urban" color scheme.

I've never painted any, but I can tell you that my first reaction to seeing these is "gosh, they're all a black blob"
I'd think about figuring out a way to bring in some more contrast if I had to paint them.

All human activity is more or less screaming into an empty void. But also following feeds for your interests helps.

Oldschool green terminals, like the computers in the Alien movies.

I've never run an army painter sable, but I have run a Raphael and a couple Windsor and Newtons. Liked them both quite a bit. Good longevity as well.

Interested in how long they last. I got some off Amazon that claimed to be golden taklon and they wore out and went to crap wicked fast. Not sure if they were knockoffs or not.
