Damn. Well, i guess now we know. Illegal immigration might be the only option, with which i personally have no issue, but it does tend to suck trying to live under the radar. This is balls. I may have to look into options for petition/mobilization.

The lawyer on the news said there might be precedent for a loophole because recent anti-trans litigation coming from the federal government in the United States represents clear evidence of persecution by the State, but there was no follow-up statement so idk.

Reading a bit more, it looks like it will be tricky, and/or risky. Canada views the US as a "safe third country" for asylum/refugee purposes, so most Americans who apply for asylum in Canada will be turned away by default at the border.

I just heard on CBC that there may be better grounds now for trans US citizens to seek asylum in Canada. I for one am in favour of a solution that increases the number of awesome queers in my vicinity, plus we have poutine, so what are you all waiting for?
