I am on a mission to buy the books I loved as a child, but so many of them are impossible to find.

Thinking of a bot that adds random legit-sounding meetings to your calendar over the course of the year but then sends you an email 30 minutes before saying sorry it's had to cancel. Kind of an Oh-Thank-Fuck-As-A-Service.

Dear developers, Don't make your unrelated application my default mime handler for inode/directory. Sincerely,

Butter Chicken Curry Type Thing by me with a little help from a recipe. and Guten Tag by Wir Sind Helden. #tonightscookingtunes

It's taco, er, Monday. Revisiting "Fantasies" by Metric this time. I forgot this album existed tbh, it's really good. #tonightscookingtunes

My dough didn't rise much overnight :/ This is not a euphemism. I'm still looking forward to pizza. Instead of a completely tomato base, I have a short-dated snack pack of mozzarella balls in pesto I plan on using up, maybe with some pre-air-fried torn bits of chicken.

Just had a flashback to when you could wipe the static off a TV screen with the palm of your hand. You could wipe invisible stuff in a strip from one side to the other and leave the rest under it's own force field. Magic.

Thinking about how I could replace the boring old dark-mode toggles in my home with these and realising I'd need to replace everything else I own in order to make it match.

Dammit I found some really good music here earlier and I've lost it because I forgot to like it or bookmark it or anything. Feel dumb.

Today's episode of "how old am I". I have NOW (that's what I call music) 6. It's the good one, with Cities In Dust on it. Reminded me, however, that people used to have to pay as much as, or sometimes more than, an album to basically have some rando's playlist.

np: Zeromancer - Chromebitch Having a bit of an eyeliner evening. Making some kind of Thai mince thing from a recipe and I'm already winging most of it because of missing ingredients and dubious amounts of garlic. #tonightscookingtunes

The middle bit of my office chair's been tearing up the carpet for ages now, and I thought I'd never get it apart to fix. I took the wheels off, put a block of wood on the pavement and rested the cylinder on that. Then I went round in a circle, stamping the shit out of it one leg at a time […]

Here's your periodic reminder to go through those fedi bookmarks you've been idly making since you joined. There'll be something good in there you missed.

Making a pizza tonight. Dough looks promising. Sauce is mostly from sundried tomatoes and garlic so it'll be rich. Given the state of the world, the most appropriate music I could think to play was History Repeating by propellerheads + Shirley Bassey. Haven't listened to this in far too long […]

Went to linkedin. Searched for job openings as a night gardener. No results. #NotAngryJustDisappointed

I hate when I click on what I think is the login CTA for a site and it turns out to be the sign-up form, when "login" is relegated to a second click. That's just shit. I wish sites would stop doing it.

Ran DeepSeek locally, and first asked it what John Singer Sargent's most impactful work was, and it's insisting it was his time with New Order, crossing New Wave with Post Punk. I told the prompt that he died half a century before that and it patiently explained to me how I was wrong, and […]

Browsing cat running wheels online when I found the best possible picture. Know your audience, I guess.

I've played around with a few of those neovim "distros", and my metric is, if I can't figure out how to turn off whatever plugin or setting is automatically inserting closing brackets or treating everything I type as a fucking snippet request within 30 minutes I delete it forever.

I thought I had a second-stage interview this afternoon. I'd had to cancel the first one with 15 minutes or so to spare because of the storm taking out the power, and just about manager to reschedule. So I thought it was at 3pm. The agent asked me to remind him the time this morning and so I […]

MS Teams: Care to tell us why you gave negative feedback? Me: Sure. The thumbs down button is right at the bottom of a scroll bar so I mistook it for a down arrow.

The power went out about half an hour before I had a job interview. Expected back on sometime tomorrow pm. Apparently there's some sort of Weather Event. Oh well, I've sent them a message asking for a reschedule. I've been doing a jigsaw but it's too dark for that now.

In the middle of my dream last night, when I was on the beach being shadowed by a giant UFO, it got suddenly really foggy and everything stopped moving. Then a button appeared in the sky, reading, "Are you still dreaming?"

Oh go on then. Have a random bookshelf. #LibraryShelfieDay

[mh] My old housemate died a year ago and whatsapp just removed him from my friends' group chat. I liked having him there. We all did. Fuck it, I'm getting hammered tonight.

Deerful's cover of "Just Like We Never Said Goodbye" just came on my playlist. It's a wonderful cover of one of my favourite tracks. So gently happy. #tonightscookingtunes

LinkedIn is the worst "social" media platform I've seen so far as adding alt-text to images. It doesn't enforce it, but it does have an "Alt Text" button when you paste an image. It's just that the sort of people who post on LinkedIn are the sort of people who think an image of text is great […]

I have a 5TB external drive with NTFS on it. I want to make it an internal drive with a different FS, and I have 5 other drives of varying FS and capacities up to 1TB with varying amounts of data on them already. I think I know what to do. I think I need to give the 250G SSD to the fox and […]

Apparently, Martin Luther King giving the speech, "I had a meme" triggers Bing's code of conduct policy.

Thinking of making a portfolio as a cleaning product. 3-in-1 action, Front-end, back-end and infrastructure. Effective even under tight deadlines. Kills 9.99% of bugs.

DAE do the thing where you just start saying the same words as someone else at the same time as them? Like repeating everything they say but with little or no delay.

I'm having really meta dreams again. Last night I had a dream which I fully remember because I woke up and recounted it to a friend, telling them that was the only way to commit it to long term memory. That was also part of the dream, but it worked, apparently.

I'm writing my CV like some kind of choose your own adventure. It's not because I'm innovative or smart. I'm just indecisive and want to pass on the responsibilities to random visitors.

Since I got made redundant I've switched back to arch as my daily driver and it feels so much more relaxed.

Pulling the lid off my 1cal oil spray like I'm a 1980s action star and it's a grenade. #tonightscookingtunes neuroticfish and front 242.

Back in the BASIC 8-bit days when I was a kid, I'd sometimes write a couple of lines to repeat an odd-length string of block drawing characters. Because it was so slow at scrolling, the screen would end up with a repeating hypnotic pattern moving upwards. I'd sometimes stare at these for hours.

When I was a kid I remember there being a fantastic old warehouse-like shop that had vintage at the time things like 8" drives for £5. Wow I wish it still existed.

Snow good. Pretty.

It doesn't matter if an AI actor is playing Fortnite or Zork, it just needs to present the right button clicks in the right order. This is one reason I prefer keyboard to game controller. It gives me the illusion that I have more impact on the outcome than if I were playing flappy bird.

It's currently day 7 of me forgetting to take the turkey out of the freezer to defrost for Christmas, and I have now totally successed this goal.

Sometime in the 90s I deliberately set up an insecure ftp box to see what would happen. I set it up to be 100% bandwidth for the first 10mb and then throttle to basically zero. A lot of hax0rs did a test request to see if it was worth uploading big files. Ended up with SO MUCH porn and ms […]

Being a centrist isn't compromise BTW. It's being right-wing but with extra steps.

I'm learning svelte as it seems like a good compromise between react/tailwind and something good.

I've been pondering making a LinkedIn post about wanting* a job after my 'dundancy. It's so difficult to write something on that platform of (autocorrect) sicko pants. * obviously I don't want a job, but I require one to stay housed.

[Food] I am making pizza and topping it with Christmas leftovers. #tonightscookingtunes are my shuffled bandcamp wishlist which is enormous. Np Mona by clauthewitch

Happy Boxing Day to everyone except those people who put the empty paper sleeves back in the after-eights box.
