Am I delusional??? Shouldn’t everyone be freaking out???

Yes!!!!! I am constantly spreading the gospel of my local (rural) library’s reciprocal agreements w/ the neighboring counties & cities to get as many people on the *multiple library cards on Libby* train. Greater access to books/information = 🏆

😂 I literally just did that. I think read 4 pages, but feel like I read 10 chapters 🫠

I’d LOVE to see a 2025+ version of this specific book (I know there are similar ones out there) with focus on how changes in education & information consumption have changed from the ‘70s to now, and the effects on what the authors consider “intelligent reading”… (5/7)

Reading full-length books is not as common anymore in k-12 schools. Emphasis is more on short reading passage to pass tests with maybe a couple books thrown in. (4/7)

While the core of the book is still applicable, with the prevalence of the Internet and popularity of short-form content, being able to read and understand long-form content from full-length novels/books is more probably even more important than ever before (dramatic, I know 🙃). (3/7)

A few chapter in now. I’m reading the “updated” version from the ‘70s. This book could absolutely use a new updated version for today. And I mean that in the best way possible. (2/7)

Feeling pressured like you *have* to post is the worst! I usually have 3-5 books going at once so it’s a toss up as to which I actually finish & when lol (1/2)

Yes, I have an instagram too, buts it’s not *just* books. More of a creative outlet for me. This seems better so far for actually being able to engage with other people. If you didn’t see my previous post about the “no-pressure” book journal I found, you might like that! (1/2)

The wheelhouse & doorway sections are to help with figuring out what you like & look for in books, so it’s hypothetically easier for you to pick your next read/what you want to read more easily. Useful if you’re indecisive or haven’t quite figured out your reading style/likes yet 😊

Making your voice heard about how important the library services are to you and NOT supporting censorship is super important. The more the board/director/head librarian get pushback from their users, the more likely it is they will change. (2/2)

That’s so unfortunate to hear. I’m a college librarian, not a public one, and I’m in awe of the majority of public librarians & staff because that jobs is TOUGH, especially now. You have to be brave for that job. My little nugget of advice is to not give up on your public library. (1/2)

“In the United States, it is mainly we, the people, who are the problem; we who…see reading as solely comfort, seeking out only texts that confirm our presuppositions and prejudices. Perhaps for us, the very idea of change is dangerous, and what we avoid is reading dangerously.” - Azar Nafisi 2/2
