Regular reminder that because DC is denied self-government, the DCUSA is our “local” prosecutor over whom we have no local control.

Always worth saying: the ongoing choice to make SCOTUS opaque and hieratic rather than democratically accessible is a deeply ideological one, meant to create the false impression the country's most important decisions are made via oracular revelation rather than by nine human beings like you and me.

It's called The Unitary Executive, look it up!

on purpose!

This is affirmative action

Number one takeaway from the insane turnout at fight the oligarchy rallies, while chuck schumer cancels his little book tour and gretchen whitmer hides her face, is that there is zero constituency for bipartisanship

"Thank you. I won't forget." bsky.app/profile/reic...

We simply had to intentionally destroy the world’s strongest economy while dismantling our scientific and educational infrastructure to ensure that a team with a trans girl would never finish second place in the Mountain West volleyball standings again

Any attorney who agrees to defend the government like this should be removed from the bar of the court and removed from any state bar of which they are a member. We do not actually have to tolerate fascists in our profession. The legal career of every single one of these people should be over.

“I never thought the leopards would eat MY face,” says the man who gave the leopards absolute immunity from criminal prosecution.

no matter what the circumstances, democrats are always saving their energy for a mythical future situation where they will do something good

The institutional Democratic Party is guided by an almost pathological level of conflict avoidance in almost every direction. “What can we do to make the least number of people mad?” is just a bankrupt way to operate.

With so much talk of the 51st state Democrats should introduce bills for DC statehood at this point

Yeah, a clean CR wouldn't do anything this dirty to the 700,000 people in DC.

Enter: another avalanche of new „think pieces“ pondering how mysterious and saddening it is conservative men just can’t get a date anymore ✨mystery✨

This man is clearly remorseless and remains a threat to public safety but even if you believe this, if someone were racking up tens of thousands of dollars in safety violations on my license plate I would simply stop allowing them to drive my car.

The attacks on DEI are a pretext for a much more radical agenda of reversing the gains of the civil rights movement, an objective the Trump administration is pursuing with zeal. A Great Resegregation. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

let me say that this is the classic “just asking questions” approach to delegitimizing the achievements of black people. and critically, you don’t even have to be a black person who talks about race. simply being black to these people means you are “obsessed with race.”

Hell yeah and also: more!

MTA to Feds: Drop dead

we are getting a national version of red state governance, where the people in charge do everything they can to impoverish the state under the view that the more wretched things get, the easier it is for them to stay in power

i cannot stress enough that at the very least everyone in leadership needs to go. all of them. probably most electeds over 70 too. primary them all. while we're at it can we just drop the entirety of the ny dem party on a deserted island

This is embarrassing even as DC traffic safety enforcement goes. This man should be banned from driving a vehicle in DC, period.

They're eating the checks! They're eating the balances!

I’ve been joking that I would like to bribe a Senator to ask RFK (and Dr Oz) what DSH is because they won’t know and… this is way worse.

this isn’t random bullshit. It’s a calculated effort to create a reactionary constitutional order. The target is the Reconstruction Constitution, inclusive of the second Reconstruction.

Trump’s pick as interim U.S. Attorney for D.C. is an enthusiastic defender of Jan. 6 rioters who wants to ban abortion with no exceptions. (His office is the only entity that can bring felony charges against adults in the District because we lack statehood.) www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...

Last Friday a new 50 page House Budget Committee list of policy options for inclusion in budget reconciliation was leaked. My new blog on all of the draconian #Medicaid cuts on the list (including new cuts beyond those in an earlier 1 page list). #healthpolicy ccf.georgetown.edu/2025/01/20/h...

@jbhenchman.bsky.social yet another car on the MBT this morning. Got on at Randolph Pl and off at S St, both of which technically have barriers but are wide enough for vehicle access.

one reason i am adamant that we should not treat the constitution as purely or exclusively a form of law is that it cedes the field to clever lawyers. “oh, well if some chuds in trump’s white house says birthright citizenship doesn’t exist then i guess it doesn’t exist.” but

Merrick Garland’s inaction may have ended democracy in the United States. But at least he’ll always have his norms.

Once again: statehood is a reproductive justice issue

This is your regular reminder that both of these structures are literally lightning rods. It’s not that deep.

Here’s a gift link to an important article! Georgia’s approach to Medicaid for adults has been an utter disaster in terms of public taxpayer dollars being wasted while few are able to access health insurance. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/18/u...
