This is authoritarian-lite. He is mostly, though not entirely, cosplaying with executive orders. He is doing things to undermine the courts. He is working on the military.
He still has a lot of work to do to create an effective repressive apparatus. He is meeting resistance. The fight is still on.

These orders are illegal and all a way to grab headlines and make Americans think he has the authority to do these things. He doesn't. It's a photo-op.
The danger is people start to think he does have the authority. Perhaps they already do.

Yeah, hard to say. Carrots and sticks for sure. I just think many of them are so twisted and sick that they get an inherent sense of pleasure out of being cruel to those weaker than them and subservient to those more powerful than them l. I think that is a major psychological draw.

He wasn't batshit crazy. He was fucking awful, but at least those that voted for him were not utterly brain dead to do so. He was twisted, and reactionary, but he actually wanted to work on America's behalf, in his own way. He wasn't a proud rapist.
