Great column by Danny Westneat from the Seattle Times in today's Vancouver Sun, but they truncated it 3/4 of the way through. And also online, for some bizarre reason. I had to go to www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news... to read the full article, esp. the final paragraph

Monday afternoon rush hour news reports 2.5-hour wait heading south at the border. Could only be Americans heading home. This long a wait is crazy. Is CPB nickel-and-diming every returnee by charging duty for values over the usual limit?

For those wondering about the theoretical underpinnings of what's happening now, the logician Kurt Gödel discovered a flaw in the US constitution - www.quickanddirtytips.com/qdtarchive/w... . I doubt Gödel would have expected a justice to trade his professional integrity for a few vacations

I'll bet my premature rusted-out xitter-truck that none of those tech guys who are so sure they can fix government ever wrote a non-trivial program (in a new domain for them) that worked the first time.

Pete McMartin writes eloquently about losing the US as a friend, which I've felt for a decade now. vancouversun.com/news/opinion...

So now Trump wants US banks to have access to Canada. I was in both the Target and Nordstrom stores when they were operating in Canada, multiple times. That sure worked out well for them.

I can't login to deepseek because of the usual wrong-password-unrecognized-login-id problem. Was wondering what it had to say about Tiananmen Square in 1989, the Cultural Revolution, treatment of Uyghurs, and Tibet, to name a few.

Just finished Charlie Angus's @charlieangus104.bsky.social‬ Dangerous Memory, about how and why we're living in the long shadow of the Thatcher/Reagan era. It's a perfect book for anyone < 35 or so, filled with tidbits about various events of the 80s/90s and how they echo now.

Also if anyone was looking for any fax number of an Ontario public politician or institution from 1994 sorry the 3-page printout has gone in the IRL recycling bin. Unlike the veronica faq it was actually useful for a few minutes.

Packing-up-driven tech trivia: NO GOOGING ALLOWED In the early 90s what were Veronica queries? I figured that one out. The real question is why I printed off the 2-page faq. And saved it during a move in '94?

there must be a #car bluesky around somewhere. If you were going to replace a 2012 mazda5 microvan with something comparable from 2016-2019 what would it be? < 10,000 mi/year, not hauling as many kids and stuff as we used to but the extra space is useful sometimes.
