And how are the thieves supposed to convert these numbers into anything useful?

Where's that Mark Cuban guy when you need him - yeah, the one who said you don't need an education to succeed in this world if you can use gen AI?

If you have zero education you'll have a hard time telling a correct response from a bogus one. Of course there are some lawyers out there, and no doubt many others, who didn't bother applying their education to make that distinction.

My conjecture from reading widely and observing US politics for the last 25 years: various people looked at the post-soviet land grab that enriched a few and imagined how great it would be if they could be one of the winning-ticket holders doing the same thing in the U.S. Here we are.

Your pace works so well ignore them. If they want to know all 500 right now they can search a rolling stone list. Or maybe you should feel ultra-honored that they won't settle for anything but your list. Fuck em anyway

Where is Dick Balch when we need him? And will anyone get the obscure 70s seattle cultural reference?

And if you're looking for new interesting female vocalists on archive.org, check out Kate Gaffney. Her roots are in 60s folk and the blues-rock of 69-71 (Dead, Zep, Stones). Lots of interesting original work, like: "Tired Wired", "Before I Go", "The Coachman", "11 Degrees", "Give it a Whirl"

I saw them 3 weeks ago in a small bar in Bellingham and need to see them again ASAP. I also bought 3 of their CDs at the show and highly recommend. Lots of shows on archive.org, but on the studio work you get to hear the music without the background chompers, def worth it.

I can see myself listening to any show from early 74 thru 12/31/75 for the rest of my life. They all still hold up

Let me recommend checking out Loudon Wainwright III for heartfelt songs about causing divorces and alienating daughters, but definitely with talent (he was anointed one of the "New Dylans" of the early 70s). Also www.youtube.com/watch?v=pX-b... for his daughter's side of things.

Much as I loved "Even Cowgirls Get The Blues", this one's the best. Let's eat a beet in his memory.

I've already said this presidency is too much like the second half of Breaking Bad, where the bad characters became even worse than they were in the first few seasons.

I understand a professional journalist identified those people, but those names -- they're all out of some scrambled-egg AI-created nightmare

Last yr I found myself ensconced with 6 Americans. 30&40ish, educated, professional jobs. When the talk turned to Boebert, and I said something, I could see that they were all Trumpers and kind of ashamed of it, but Trumpers nonetheless. The US is full of people like that.

I could understand leaving out Alaska, Hawaii, or Maine, but Michigan? It's next to so many other states (and Ontario).

First thing I thought of when I heard this: a female American writer, possibly Joan Didion, who went to Vietnam during the war and wrote about a couple of military officers taking her for a flight and pointing out the beach they wanted to develop as a resort for Americans postbellum.

Obviously people who think a black woman shouldn't have the best country album of the year are going to have a problem with a black woman leading the country itself

Of course it's only 2 weeks in, but I'm calling this the Breaking Bad presidency, where the characters and plot points introduced in the second half of its run were so much more odious than in the horrific first half.

Hearing the shows live or shortly after is good but nothing beats lovingly crafted j-card art

How does CNN write an article like this and not mention the Boeing SST: developed in the 60s, DOA in the early 70s due to economic ($$$), environmental (energy), and health (boom) concerns? (Note for the youngsters: Boeing was basically one of the good guys back then)

I figured out where my Shook journey started. Stereogum Billboard #1s four years ago covered Whitney's I Wanna Dance With Somebody and someone posted a link to their cover. I clicked on it, listened to the whole show and their songs grew on me. When's the next tour?

Charlie, my own quibble is I would like to hear more about the early version of the Grievous Angels, with Michelle. Caught two shows in Ottawa, and they're still up there among my top-20 favorite shows over the years. But this book isn't the right forum for that. Maybe a book on late 80s Cdn music

There was a tool for working with FTP archives called "Archie", and naturally "Veronica" was a language for querying them. You folks don't realize how much better you have it these days.

And are they still called "tapers" when they haven't used tape in at least a couple of decades?

I didn't recognize the song they >'ed into from LaRS in the encore—prob the same. Lots of new songs in Bellingham, lots of double-band songs in both sets. This seems to be the Shook way (only my 2nd show). Were there tapers at the Tractor? None at the Buff. Do you have a set list?

The Bellingham show was so good. I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself tonight. The venue was fine - not as interesting as the Tractor, but I could park a block away, and Bellingham is an underappreciated gem of a town.

Wait until you try MS Word 5 on a Mac from, I believe, 1985. This version never shipped for Windows, that's how close it was to the platonic ideal of a word processor.

Montreal has the best junk food in North America: bagels, Schwartz's smoked meat, pizza all-dressed, steamies & bière des épinettes. Also while you're diving into Montreal film history it turns out Sarah Polley's "Stories We Tell" fills an important gap. I had no idea until half way through it.

Not sure if you've ever heard Kate Gaffney - she's jamband-adjacent. Playing live in Philly right now every week and it's a shortish drive for you now, right? Shows are on the archive.
