Reading C&H and Watterson's ongoing fight with publishers over layouts, I was really stunned by his revealing that the top 2 panels of any 3-row strip are generally "disposable" for space reasons. Really changed how I read newspaper comics ever since.

Yeah death of the author is when you can reasonably and correctly say "This book is racist because of how every character has nakedly racist names and traits" even if the author says "no, it's fine actually" and that it doesn't matter to say "he's secretly gay" several years after the fact
