I'mma print these and hand them out at the appropriate storytimes

You don't turn into a whole new person when you turn thirty. You're still all the people you were before. You don't have to give up fanfic or sell your toy collection or whatever else you think will make you more "adult." Time makes you adult. You need to make you happy.

"Remind yourself constantly that no one gave you your identity, truth, or power, and no one can take them away without your permission." ⤵️

It's always easy to quibble with award choices or even categories (poetry, I tells ya!!!!!), but I always tend to look at the ALA winners as a moment in time. A different committee on a different day probably picks different books, ya know? (Unless they pick mine. That doesn't change!) #kidlitchat

on the other other hand I've been following these awards for close to 20 years and I feel like there's been a shift in what gets recognized. Might be part of a larger shift in what's getting published too, such as more GNs, more diverse voices, etc #kidlitchat

That said i'm in public libraries so I definitely have the adults coming to me, school librarians probs have a different experience #kidlitchat

But I also think parents/grandparents see the award sticker and think it's a promise that their personal kid will *like* the book. Which is a totally different thing than the quality of writing or illustration! Or even that said kid *should* like the book because it's a Good Book

As a librarian, I have a slightly fraught relationship with these awards. I'm so happy for the winners and their recognition. I got a great big smile upon seeing Erin Entrada Kelly's win this year!

With everything so seemingly terrible these days & no sign of anything remotely hopeful in the near future, I thought you might need this photo of a baby giraffe.

Happy birthday to my favorite Jewish socialist

I put ketchup on my scrambled eggs and my mother has made three different comments about it. In case you were wondering how Christmas is going

Don’t be one of the liberals on here saying things like “Vaccines don’t cause autism, but we must stop this epidemic—let’s look at processed foods and pesticides!” Way to perpetuate stigma and pseudoscience, my dudes. If you think autism needs to be “cured” you are part of the problem, full stop

Saw someone upbraiding someone else for having a hobby while the world is on fire, and, my friends: 1. The world is ever on fire, this is today's conflagration; 2. If you don't find time for rest and joy the fire will consume you; 3. Don't let people shame you for being an entire human.

So when mass shootings of average people and school children occurs, it's all "there's nothing we can do, these things just happen" but when a CEO gets shot, we need a special hotline, new safety protocols, and to lock up housewives over frustrated phone conversations. Got it.

This teacher's lawsuit cites "her sincerely held moral and religious beliefs that all children, including children who are LGBTQ+... deserve to be respected, accepted, & loved for who they are." Amen. Again and again. www.nbc4i.com/news/local-n...

From Nikki Giovanni, may she rest in power.

Why THE THIN MAN is the most relatable Christmas movie: - our female MC buys all her own presents - the MCs are drunk 24/7 - one character really REALLY hates her family - there’s a party and everyone is miserable - our male MC spends a scene shooting the tree - snowstorm

We need to keep talking about how weird it is for people to think they should have a say in reading choices for anyone's kids but their own. You're not in charge of what other people's children eat or wear or when they go to bed. Why on earth would you get to choose what they read?

Me: why am I so weird it is a mystery Me: *spends Thanksgiving day with my parents* Me:

So awkward. So foul mouthed. So sarcastic. Yes. And a fucking delight!

The seminal classic While You Were Sleeping starring Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman is a Christmas movie. I will not be taking questions at this time.

TOPIC: Tonight, we're thanking those individuals who have meant the most to us in our careers: a mentor, a critique partner, a reader who wrote a glowing review, a professor who pushed us to succeed, a spouse who never stopped believing, or... you tell us! #kidlitchat

Who else is gearing up for tonight's #kidlitchat?

everyone wants classic unhinged posts on here right away... but you can't force it. Rome didn't go batshit insane in a day they had to consume a lot of lead over an extended period of time

Having found the #kidlit community on Bluesky, I'm constantly hearing about new kids books. My TBR list: uhoh
