With a rise in the temperature here in VC62, Stonefly have emerged from the Esk tributeries on the moors.Protonemura meyeri ( Common early brown) i think !

Parmelia omphalodes is an occasional find here on boulders scattered amongst the heather clad moors.

Baeomyces rufus is common beside our moorland streams here in VC62.

Not often i see Cladonia portentosa growing on a wall top.

I think this could be Diploschistes scruposus. πŸ€”Found on a large boulder in a sheltered valley on the moors !VC62. @fayrnhawk.bsky.social @larkinlichen.bsky.social

Polycauliona polycarpa πŸ™‚

Just gotta love a Cladonia !πŸ˜ƒ

Looking forward to talking about the amazing @bsbibotany.bsky.social database and plant atlas.

Oh to be a Springtail, and wander slowly through the golden forest to the purple clad mountains !πŸ€—

Cladonia species seem to love the peaty soils of our moors. All of these were found on top of a single grouse butt !

I finally got round to attempting to find signs of hyphae in the Jelly lichen.Hopefully i have succeeded πŸ€”πŸ™ !πŸ™‚ @aspenecology.com @larkinlichen.bsky.social @jennysea.bsky.social

Bilimbia sabuletorum,i think, found today on the high moors growing on peat ,on top of a grouse butt !

Today ,up on the high moors i found a wooden gate post with a Stereocaulon sp. on it.A new species to me but which one πŸ€” @larkinlichen.bsky.social @jennysea.bsky.social

On the lead work which we were replacing i noticed Physcia caesia and possibly Fuscidea lygaea πŸ™‚ @larkinlichen.bsky.social

Xanthoria elegans is scarce in my area, this one was spotted yesterday on an old school house bell tower. I'm a builder, and often notice interesting lichens on roofs !πŸ™‚

This fantastic lichen sat on top of a dry stone wall on the moor edge stood out like a beacon.Haematomma ochroleucum var ochroleucum i think.C negative, K+Yellow.

A limestone drystone wall was interesting today near Scarborough.Jelly lichens seemed to be taking advantage of the water retention in cushions of moss.Any help with ID on the Jelly lichens would be greatfully accepted !πŸ™‚

Yesterday we found a lovely cushion of Cladonia squamules growing at the base of a tree on the edge of mature woodland.Cladonia caespiticia we thinkπŸ€”No podetia, white underside and squamules with pycnidia ! @jennysea.bsky.social

A lovely comparison.Ramalina farinacea (left) and Evernia prunastri (right).

Dinosaur found on Runswick bay cliffs today !πŸ˜ƒ

A rather nice bonus find on Brean down last Saturday, a nice bryoparasytic fungi amongst mixed bryophytes, after putting a sample under the microscope the spores revealed the first ever uk record of Octospora entosthodontophila, host specific to Entosthodon sp ,my 6th uk first for a Bryoparasytic.

Always a pleasure to see Velvet shank (Flammulina velutipes) but here is one with a Rosecomb !

Unfortunately the old church i hoped to visit today had a "No Entry" sign on the gate. But i did find Diploicia canescens on a very old tree. Some of which had apothecia, apparently uncommon away from the coast. @jennysea.bsky.social

A tad chilly on the moors today.Horizontal icicles !

This large patch of Lichen had me baffled for a while but i now think it is Hypenomyce scalaris.Found on top of a sandstone wall on the moor edge.C +Red ! @jennysea.bsky.social

Animal, mineral or vegetable πŸ€”?Seen today above high tide line on the usual "granite" sea defence boulders near Whitby.Didn't get a sample as it was 2Deg C, icy , with a Northerly wind and sea spray to contend with ! @larkinlichen.bsky.social

It may have been -6 Deg C here in North Yorkshire this morning but this lovely Lecanora muralis didn't seem to mind.Growing on a stone curb within a yard of my front gate !πŸ™‚

I also noticed this stunning Porella sp.Oh and a few lichens too. @mossmalarkey.bsky.social

Whilst searching for lichens on this old churc i found 2 very interesting fungi.Arrhenia ( Omphalina) rickenii and Arrhenia retiruga ( no gills). Both growing amongst moss on an old boundary wall !πŸ˜€

This lichen has got me completely beaten.Found on top of a fence post , on the moor. The fence was erected 10-15 years ago, so very few lichens established on the posts yet !Any ideas πŸ€” @robyaxley.bsky.social @jennysea.bsky.social

Another visit to my favourite dry stone wall.3 very different lichens : Trapelia coarctata (C+red),Xanthoria ucrainica and Physcia adscendens with apothecia and sorediate lobesπŸ€” @robyaxley.bsky.social

The lichens on the dry stone walls are looking superb on the moor edge !Plenty of fresh air and light !! Even i can name 20 or so of these beautys !Probably another 40 that i can't !YET !πŸ™‚

Amazed to find this female flightless Mottled umber out on the high moors today.A first for me !πŸ˜ƒ
