At a gallery in Chelsea, I once sat on a giant transparent lucite rectangular prism that I thought was a bench, they ran over and said “don’t sit on the art!”

True, the Luddites did not get upset about automation of thread spinning, just automation of weaving.

Unfortunately, this is like saying you want affordable housing without legalizing construction of dense urban housing. Federal immigration law needs to be reformed.

I'm also not on tenure track. As such, I don’t have much protection at Columbia. Last week, I was notified that if my grants remain frozen and I’m not able to find other funding within the next year, I'll lose my appointment. More urgently, though, I'll soon have to start laying off lab members. 4/9

To be fair, the 1955 CBC Hockey Night in Canada was what I’d call a “fast turn-around”, it took several minutes for the wet film replay to be available. The first true “instant replay” on videotape was CBS Sports Army–Navy Game 1963.

There is a wide range of literature on the topic of upzoning. The “natural experiment” in the 20th century was large-scale down zoning almost everywhere, and that is how we got here. I suggest starting here: www.planetizen.com/news/2023/12...
