My kid just read “Coraline”. After they told me what they thought, I felt like I had to tell them the author was a horrible person. Didn’t get into graphic details but they understood. Also mentioned real things JK Rowling said about trans people (my child has a trans friend). They were horrified.

Kid tells me that since none of them have phones, they have a shared Google doc on Google classroom and type messages to each other that way. Clever!!

💯 Ice skating is great, just total concentration on learning and not thinking about other stuff.

Chatted with my HS friends last night, one mentioned she got shingles and it sucked. Couldn’t get the vaccine because she is not 50. Another mentioned she heard you can get it but have to buy the whole vial (10 doses). So we’re like “let’s do a reunion and all get our shingles vaccine!!!” 😂

This is truly amazing. Great summary!

Times are tough right now, but take a deep breath and enjoy this moment of pure joy. The Cycling Without Age movement allows people who can no longer ride an opportunity to feel the wind on their faces once again and, in this case, reconnect w/ dear friends. Broke my record for cold biking today, to go vote! It was 7°F/-14°C. Super short ride to my polling place and I didn’t get cold. My previous record was 10°F. It’s all about the right gear.

Definitely felt the “sticky eyes” according to my kid this morning. Eyelashes got frost on them. 🥶

Today is a bus day.

Did you know the most powerful force for climate action is LOVE—for our children, their future, and the world they’ll inherit? That's right! Research shows this message moves hearts 12x more than jobs and 2x more than extreme weather. Source: potentialenergycoalition.org/guides-and-r...

“Fear in public spaces is a subjective feeling, but usually has an objective trigger and often arises from a collective experience.” I really appreciated this article-think that Seattle transit/public space advocates should give it a read. ht @theoverheadwire.bsky.social www.nzz.ch/english/in-s...

Had a great skate with my team today!! So much fun. 🥇

“I exhort all the faithful of the Catholic Church, and all men and women of good will, not to give in to narratives that discriminate against and cause unnecessary suffering to our migrant and refugee brothers and sisters.” press.vatican.va/content/sala...

Literally the “what works clearinghouse” for researchers and policymakers to understand what works in education. This is not “government efficiency”.

We don't want to hear "the pedestrian was wearing a black jacket" ever again

The American Bar Association thinks some pretty serious illegaling is happening. “In the last 21 days, > a dozen lawsuits have been filed alleging that the administration’s actions violate the rule of law and are contrary to the Constitution or laws of the US. The list grows longer every day.”

Incredible editorial in the National Catholic Reporter. The headline doesn't capture how impeccably argued and supported the piece is, so go read it: www.ncronline.org/opinion/edit...

RIP Donald Shoup, such a legend. Just an incredible human with an incredible impact.

Wisconsin is a weird and wonderful place. This tunnel system sounds amazing! www.wpr.org/news/sandlan...

If you have been considering an ebike, this is a great guide to more affordable options. I realize it is still $$ but far cheaper than a car and can easily do 50% of people’s regular trips! open.substack.com/pub/bikeshop...

So good

Coordinating schedules for a family of 5 is enough to make your head spin. As I was doing it today my kid said “if I had to do that I would be stressed”. Uh yeah!! 😜

Love that they really leaned into the Michigan is a mitten. Looks cozy!
