In contrast to the evangelicals, the more liberal churches tend to avoid politics and involve themselves in direct action. Now that the Lutheran and Catholic aid programs have been directly attacked, it will be interesting to see if they respond politically.

It's worth noting of course, that there are a lot of right wing Catholics, and the Lutheran Missouri synod could easily be mistaken for evangelical, at least politically. But the mainstream branches tend more liberal.

I am an ex-Catholic for a variety of reasons, but the brothers and nuns and lay teachers did teach compassion and empathy, that Jesus loved the poor and downtrodden as much or more than the wealthy, and would reference the table-flipping story. I'm glad that those values aren't dead.

I am recovered Catholic, but came from the sort that are leftists, not liberals. The serve your neighbors as you would yourself, but don't actually call it socialism, sort of Catholics. There are many types, just like other types of people. But most Catholics barely practice anything.

Christians have not been utterly silent. The RW fundie loudmouths get the media attention, but plenty of liberal/left Christians have been out there doing the work, although you have to look harder for it. Not that much harder, though. Your comment is irresponsible.
