Lmao hippie is a fair charge. I will leave you alone and I’m sorry for any trouble I’ve caused.

Am I talking to a Canadian? What a treat! I am so embarrassed about my country, and your sovereignty is obvious and should be respected. I want to do what I can on my side of the border to protect Canada from what I can. Do you happen to have any ideas from your perspective? (If you are willing)

I am sorry for bothering you, and I appreciate your response. Two things and I’ll leave you alone: I do not think fascists are marginalized (quite the opposite) and I understand that Nazis are fascists. I believe in Audre Lorde’s quote about tools, is all. I am sorry for implying otherwise.

This is the same logic that has been used against every marginalized group, justified every war, and caused every genocide. We will not make a better world thinking like this. If we cannot offer love to the worst people on this planet, we cannot offer it to anyone.

I agree. However, we are also reluctant to change our minds. If a racist came to you and said you hurt their feelings would you be willing to listen? If not, then why should they listen to you? Someone has to break, and unfortunately that burden has always been on those who are doing genuine good.

War doesn’t stop fascism. It delays or redirects it. The only antidote to fascism is education, compassion, and patience. War is easier than forgiveness.

Calling racists stupid hasn’t worked for the past twelve years. It is true, they are uninformed. Yelling that at them only makes sure they stop listening to people like us. We need new tools if we are to dismantle this house.

I apologize! I should have seen it as such. I do agree the joke is very funny (sincerely)

Do you feel this message will persuade anyone who voted for Trump to change their mind? I suspect it will make them further entrenched in their viewpoint, and less likely to discuss with you why they voted for an objectively awful man. As activism, I think this feels good rather than does good.

What is the goal of your newsletter? I am assuming it is your form of activism, but I am not sure what that activism is: To inform, profit, or persuade? Telling your echo chamber how bad Donald Trump is seems like misspent effort.

I would add: build meaningful relationships with anyone who will listen. You don’t have to condone someone’s politics to enjoy their company, if they will allow it. It needs to hurt more than just us when they come for us.

It’s an unfair burden, but it is easier to destroy than to build, case and point MAGA. It’s the hard work of empathy and rationality to make a better world for all of us. If we don’t believe in that future for people we despise, we don’t believe in it at all.

This is an issue on both sides. We have to ask whether we have sufficient empathy for people raised in a Christianity co-opted by charlatans and educated by poorly funded public schools. When they ask stupid, racist questions are we modeling the compassion we hope to see in them someday?
