As the parent of an actual human child who is learning to walk… I think I understand an inkling of the experience you’re describing.

I’ve never seen Lazarus nor heard that song. And yeah, I’m sold on both. Dope shit.

If there was ever a moment to capture in a magic card. This was it. As someone who doesn’t like the crossover universe stuff on principle, I can say I finally get the appeal.

Innovation is a budget you can spend. If you under-do it, you don’t live up to your potential. If you over-do it, you alienate people who can’t figure out what you’re asking them to do. If you spend it wisely, things feel familiar AND new.

.csv spreadsheets. Lightweight, powerful tools exist to modify them, and nearly every programming language and platform plays nice with them for integration.

If you aren’t already: Keep every text string in a localization file (spreadsheet or some simple DB) and use links to populate the strings into displays. Don’t make your description strings a part of an asset’s properties!

That’s the trouble. The more sweet time you take, the longer you have to crunch. If you start in crunch, you only have time to make a working game! (This strategy does not work outside of game jams)

10 days is in fact way too much time.

Rates vary wildly, mostly based on artist experience. Don’t haggle. If someone’s too expensive for you, thank them for their time and ask for a referral for someone in your budget. Revisions are expensive. Have a clear idea before you ask them to start drawing. Use references & moodboards!!!

Anything Gundam if you want to experience the horrors of war through the eyes of child soldiers. … except for The Witch From Mercury. That’s just cute space lesbians with lots of robot battles.

Paranoia Agent if you want to get kinda fucked up about life. Princess Jellyfish if you want to feel better about life and care about fashion. Deathnote if you want to see a narcissist libertarian get what’s coming to him. Pluto (or anything Osamu Tezuka) if you want to question humanity.

Watch some movies while you’re at it. Princess Mononoke Paprika Nausicaa of the valley of wind Akira (a classic, mostly holds up) Ghost in the Shell (same) Anime is so steeped in its own context that watching the old stuff makes the new stuff more fun.

Jiujutsu Kaisen is an incredible piece if character drama masquerading as a stereotypical action show. It’s one of my favorite pieces of media made in the last 10 years. I could go on, but I have a character limit.

Seconding. Very good.

Instead of putting in so much labor that you feel the need to be compensated, what about bringing in more people to reduce the workload?

I’m new here, so forgive the possibly ignorant questions. Who are you, why are you trying to run ads and sell merch, and into whose pockets do the proceeds of those revenue streams go?

The wild thing in this bag of hot air is that it doesn’t even mention the primary reason people prefer to use steam: THEY ALREADY USE IT. The only way Epic competes is that they give away hundreds of dollars of free games a year and they still have like 10% of Steam’s market share.

Thank you for the deep cut. This reference is old enough to vote, so I’m going to go crawl into a hole and turn into dust.

Elon was given full read/write access to the federal payment system. He has the SSN and bank account info of every person or entity that has ever interacted with the federal government in any way. And the ability to change how those systems function with no restrictions or oversight.

Jira is fine. It feels overbuilt to justify its price yet, and most of its features feel totally unnecessary for the fast-iteration environment of small-to-medium-team game dev. It’s fine, but I’ve preferred every other ticketing system I’ve ever used. Except teams. Fuuuuuuuuck teams.

Same issue. I’d love to help :/ Why is your school requiring you to solicit unknown and unreliable input from social media as part of a grade requirement? Couldn’t you and your classmates circulate these form amongst yourselves for more reliable results?

Hi! I’m a combat designer with 11 years of design and 15 years in the industry! Co-op ARPG has been my jam for the last few years, and most of my recent work has involved mobile, or mobile-inspired sensibilities. Let’s talk?

Help me figure out Tumblr! I get blackout poems, bad jokes, and a whole lot of posts by a writer from Star Trek DS9 and literally nothing else!
