Hi @chatchemistry.bsky.social Have a year 12 student who wants to study chemistry at Uni. They want some extra enrichment activities to do as there is no real relevant work experience. Does anyone have any ideas? MOOCs? @adamboxereducation.bsky.social please repost

🎢 This is how I've been teaching proportional reasoning in physics, slightly different than how I've seen, which I will tentatively name the "Expel the Intruder" method. We start with this warm up situation, and need to compare the range of B vs. C. 1/

Let's talk about lesson observations. What's everyone's pro tips for making them the most effective for both the observer and the observed?

Excellent news from Ofqual today regarding the use of equation sheets at GCSE for the next 3! years. Definitely feels like they wanted to just use full sheets for the remaining lifetime of the current specification. We shall see...!

Showed this to my sixth formers the other day, blew their minds!

Is BlueSky popping off again? I'm always interested to talk about and learn more about Physics teaching, cogsci and teacher development 🙂

Lots of new people turning up tonight. This might be a good place to start go.bsky.app/3q4CVBY

Ofqual is consulting on extending the use of the formulae sheets in GCSE Maths and Science/Physics for an additional three years, if you hadn’t seen this yet. www.gov.uk/government/c...

CALLING ALL SCIENCE TEACHERS The government has recently launched a Curriculum and Assessment Review. It is crucial that our voices are heard. I have written a submission below, and you are welcome to be a co-signatory! achemicalorthodoxy.co.uk/2024/09/30/c...

NEW SPISODE!!! Seven Fishes is live, join us for a riotous conversation with @heymrshallahan.bsky.social as we look at some of @teachertapp.bsky.social 's best data! open.spotify.com/episode/4Soy...

I got an opportunity to try something different this year, I've been really enjoying it!

And finally it was great to hear and talk about the reasons behind some of the stats on the changing home school relationship with @heymrshallahan.bsky.social . Lots of intriguing reasons discussed!

Really interesting talk from @joshpd.bsky.social on responsive coaching. This is something I'm going to be more involved with this year, and the model he described made so much sense!

Cracking talk on checking prior knowledge from @mrarobbins.bsky.social , I was definitely in that group of teachers not doing so because of barriers, but they have been removed, so let's try it next week!

Had an excellent day today at #rEd24 First time attending and it was definitely worth it! Going to try and get more of my colleagues to attend next year!

Absolutely engaging talk by @priteshraichura.bsky.social at #rEd24 on getting and keeping 100% attention. Packed full of strategies that are going to be so useful to implement at this time of year!

A world of experience from Ros Atkins at #rEd24 . Really loved his thought of offering reassurance at the point when most questions may arise. Can definitely see that helping with some of my students!

Great talk from @pepsmccrea.bsky.social about the amplifying power of social norms. It's so important for us all to get those routines right, otherwise we're all rowing in different directions 👎

I have arrived at #rEd24 and have finally chosen a first session to attend 😅
