Final Fantasy VII Remake will be one of the Switch 2’s early third-party selections. It’ll run really well on Switch 2!… then Rebirth will release a year later and run like garbage 😬

This one’s a little out there: Given its throwback character designs (especially Bowser & DK), I predict the new Mario Kart on Switch 2 will be introduced and marketed as the spiritual successor to Mario Kart 64.
In other words, it’s Mario Kart 65 😎

Hi-Fi Rush will be one of the Switch 2’s third-party (digital-only) games available at launch. Cannot emphasize enough how crucial & beneficial this would be for both Tango Gameworks & Nintendo.
This also means Chai would meet the singular prerequisite to be in Smash! 🥳

If the Switch 2’s Joycons actually can function like a computer mouse, then the Switch 2’s tech-demo game will be a spiritual successor to Mario Paint, featuring a variety of minigames that all utilize the Joycon’s new functionalities. Maybe they even bring back the music maker!

Protip: talk to characters you meet as frequently as you can, multiple times.
…EXCEPT the first familiar face you run into. That character will spoil bosses in dialogue and you do not want to know who the bosses are before you fight them, trust me

2024 Game of the Year: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
My most consistent thought when playing great games throughout 2024 was "It's not as good as Rebirth." Sweeping, compelling, and above all else, extremely fun, FF7R is a 130-hour miracle of a video game and I adored every minute of it.

2. Astro Bot
All of the entries on this list are examples of gaming at its best, but Astro Bot is special because it's the only one I'd recommend to someone who doesn't know this medium at all. If you want to fall in love with video games, Astro Bot should be your first date.

3. Balatro
No game owned real estate on my zen state like LocalThunk's frighteningly addictive deck-builder did throughout 2024. To put it simply, I had a really tough year and Balatro helped me through it more than any other game on this list. Thanks, Jimbo.

4. Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Prosecutor's Gambit
Yes, it counts :) After 13 years of Japan exclusivity, one of the best games in the Ace Attorney series was officially brought West in 2024 and it's just as intelligent, meaningful, and captivating as it's ever been.

5. Shadow Generations
I'm still in shock. Shadow's first solo game in 19 years is so much better than anyone could've foreseen, featuring series-best visuals, level design, and play-control. No "for a Sonic game" qualifiers necessary; Shadow Generations is outstanding, period.

6. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Remake
After years of scoffing at Paper Mario fans, I put my money where my mouth is in 2024 and was completely blown away by the depth, imagination, and humor of Thousand-Year Door's mega-faithful remake. One of Nintendo's best games ever.

7. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
The folks at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio sought to create a definitive Yakuza/LaD experience with Infinite Wealth. The refined, eccentric, and sincere joy I got out of exploring Hawaii with Ichi, Kiryu, and the rest of the cast proves RGG succeeded.

8. Persona 3 Reload
Atlus kicked off ones of its best years ever with a stellar recreation of the Persona game that introduced the series' grand design as we love it today. Combining 5's gameplay improvements with 3's story, Reload proudly reinforces the right to bear Evokers.

9. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
After nearly 20 years of yearly releases, Activision finally let a Call of Duty game sizzle in development, resulting in one of the best single-player campaigns and multiplayer suites in the series. I haven't loved CoD like this since high school.
