Whenever I see hypothetical rewrites or changes for 2-3 that keep Hiyoko alive, a pretty common alternative is just to have Mikan go out of her way to kill Hiyoko instead of what we got. I find this to be a strange decision since the literal chapter before this had an anti-revenge message

I wish I could say the same about Ishimaru, but unlike Hiyoko, he suffers from having no build up. Kiyomondo just comes out of nowhere and dies before we see Ishimaru do anything to progress his character

One aspect of DR2 that I feel tends to get overlooked is its underlying sub-theme of Forgiveness/Atonement > Revenge/Retribution, first introduced in chapter 2. Fuyuhiko and Hiyoko both go through "anti-revenge" related arcs, with Mahiru in the middle pushing them both

Despite all the praise I give to 2-3's underrated writing towards Hiyoko's death, the killer's plan being so unrealistic in the time given doesn't help. But then I look at the plan for 3-3 and it's somehow just as stupid
