I tried that course but quit. The problem is its a little hard for beginners and way too boring and it really killed my enthusiasm.
But I do agree that learning general programming beforehand is good. I think that course is something you should do, just later when you have a deeper passion.

While there are a lot of games that can be used as examples for gameplay, not being the most important. In most cases, making assets for features that haven’t been developed yet leads to a large amount of hard work from artists being wasted as development may lead to the art that they make being cut

The main reason people say that isn’t to disrespect other artist, but because the entire medium of video games is about interactivity and gameplay is the only thing that provides that.
The second reason is that it’s better practice for game developers, to focus on gameplay first.

Yeah but I really think it’s great. The project I’m working on right now started out like that.
After shifting to a different easier project I was able to gain the skills to make a good version of my previous vision in a reasonable amount of time !
I won’t lie though, shelving the project did hurt
