Thoughts and prayers with every Beehive spinner praying hard this story doesn't have the legs with the Press Gallery of an ex-Greens MP not being prosecuted for the non-existent crime of not-shoplifting from a supermarket. #nzpol www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

Everyone must go!

Look who’s coming to China with me! Love you @thebibliophile.bsky.social

Everyone must go!

Re-re-posting this. It is not good enough to hide behind "well we're just reporting what he said" when what he's said is easily disprovable lies that are clearly intended to incite hatred and violence.

Until Brian Tamaki and his goons face repercussions for their actions this is just going to continue. No amount of strongly worded statements (none of which I've seen even dare to mention trans people) is gonna cut it. Either arrest them or this will get worse and worse.

Two attacks, using force (people were injured at the library, "breaking through" police barricades here), against the queer community of Auckland in one day by Destiny. We are owed an explanation as to why there are thus far zero arrests. There may BE a good explanation, but if so we are owed it.

This was a great workshop (and not just because I was its keynote speaker). It was so good we’re talking about doing it again next year

I'm currently in a workshop on Conspiracies, Facts and Truth with @mrxdentith.com and @thebibliophile.bsky.social so clearly Winston has been listening in on Teams.

We're back! And worse at promoting the podcast than ever! This episode features an all-new theme and an almost-new segment where I throw @mrxdentith.com's words back in their face for fun and profit!

Today, we at Google have a new product: what if you could could ask an app a question? Oh, we do that already? Well, what if we were a little bit worse at it? What if we also sometimes gave you egregiously wrong information? And what if it cost a billion dollars? Still not interested? It's mandatory

I've read some nonsense by philosophers on conspiracy theories in my time, but the paper I'm reading now for a reading group session next week is such nonsense that it makes prior nonsense seem just like sense...

We’re watching #Grafted now, which @thebibliophile.bsky.social thinks is a pun on “Grafton” and its subject matter, skin grafting. The thing is thus far most of the pseudoscience appears to be set at Auckland Hospital, so…

The idea behind #GetAway is good but the last third’s pivot to something more comic than the first two acts really drew me out of the story

I’m expecting dribs and drabs of money from small gigs and art sales next week-ish toward overdue bills, but I’m pretty much borked on empty for the next few days—the kinda empty where coffee money makes a big difference? I’d be grateful for tips of any amount www.paypal.com/paypalme/dan...

There is only one in industry where it's okay to describe "6" as "almost ten", and it's journalism. It's literally a core function of it to turn exact figures into vague prose. Poppy seeds are measured in Toyota Corollas, meteors in football fields. Data dies when it meets journalism.

The Spinoff has long covered for David Seymour. Duncan Grieve’s almost hagiographic claims about Seymour’s intelligence is just the tip of an iceberg of work that has mostly made Seymour into that guy “who is just asking questions.”

This is why particularists argue that we should have always been using a non-evaluative definition of “conspiracy theory” in our research

Yeah sometimes conspiracy theories are extremely real because people actually do conspire to do bad stuff.

I'm confused about how the AP put out a story titled, "Why conservative American evangelicals are among Israel’s strongest supporters" with no mention of evangelical beliefs about Israel helping kick off the end times and the return of Christ. THAT'S THE MAIN THING. apnews.com/article/isra...

What denomination is this because it fucks, actually.

Suppose it was only a matter of time, but one of our OG beer festivals has formed a relationship with a white supremacist, misinformation media network and hateful commentator. It is disgusting, disappointing and ALL participants in the festival need to take a hard look at their attendance this year

The thing I don’t get is that in a functional governmental system as soon as Trump loses power people like Musk are surely in line for prison (or worse) given their (at the very least) complicity in what is going on. But then I remember that the US doesn’t seem to be all that functional…

I think a lot of people #OnHere (& I mean myself too) really really don't fully get how many people out in the world fundamentally do not know what's happening in the federal govt & don't fully get the stakes of it when they know it's happening. Need to be running major ad campaigns about this shit.

I don't remember Caesar Augustus razing Palestine to build holiday villas for the equites, but maybe I need to reread my Suetonius?

Is it really the case that the only Waitangi Day celebration in Central Auckland is actually out at Pt. England this year?

Realtors would rather spend days with a lawyer than 90 minutes learning about Te Ao Māori

That feeling where something has gone wrong and you can't really work out why...

Out of a kind of morbid curiosity I just checked the twitter feed of an outspoken conservative philosopher who is very invested in culture war. (I've no desire to send people at him so please don't name.) In line with this prediction he's posting as if nothings changed, still seething all the time.

New article in the British Journal of Criminology about the criminalisation of conspiracy theories and conspiracy denial in the social sciences. We should take conspiracy theories seriously and investigate conspiracies by political and corporate elites doi.org/10.1093/bjc/...

Trump’s question about whether Spain is a BRICS country was stupid, but not as stupid as we thought as BRICS has expanded and now comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates.

New Zealand seems to have given up entirely on masking

Trump imposing tariffs is, I think, the tip of the fucking iceberg for what's going on in the US right now. Democratic, constitutional America is *dead* when goons of fascist oligarchs, with no position within govt, are marching into offices and forcibly demanding overturn of state secrets.
