Why is X challenging court orders investigating Irish far-right violence?

Hey just a quick note to anybody getting their Valentine’s results today. It’s not the end of the world if you don’t get what you were expecting. You can always repeat and some of the sexiest people in the world failed Valentine’s Day so chin up

Happy Valentine's Day to the couple who, in 1844, were caught having sex in the Bridgend Workhouse kitchens. When discovered, they pretended that it didn't happen and that they were looking at something on the wall. #Wales #History

APG board member & advocacy chair Alec Ferretti testified in front of the New York State Legislature yesterday in opposition to proposed budget changes that would negatively impact access to NY vital records. View the testimony at https://nystateassembly.granicus.com/player/clip/8827 (at 8:58:36).

As Valentine's Day approaches, acquaint yourself with this story of a romantic medico-legal elopement along the Grand Canal to Dublin. The prospective groom went on to become a leading expert in diseases of the heart! Full story here: ruthcannon.com/2025/02/06/a...

My piece on @rtebrainstorm.bsky.social is live today, based on our recent study of technology use for participating in mourning practices in Ireland (cc @patlabucc.bsky.social)

Here's something that takes seconds and could have actual positive outcomes. There is an official 'citizen's petition' system in the EU. There's one open at the moment to ban conversion therapy for LGBT+ people in the EU. Ireland can be 1 of the 7 nations needed eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#...

We're just 3,775 signatures away from Ireland becoming the third country in the EU to reach its threshold! To be successful, a European citizens' initiative has to reach one million statements of support as well as minimum thresholds in at least 7 countries.

My article on English Good Shepherd “Magdalene” institutions is out now open access in Contemporary British History www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

I toured Philly's first post-pandemic office-to-residential conversion and talked to the developers, Alterra Property Group, about why they had such an easy time (and why there haven't been more such projects yet): www.inquirer.com/real-estate/...

Today is Candlemas- which must be the best name in the calendar. Candlemas - a celebration of the return of light Artist: Gerald Witcomb

Thanks, Stephen. And I have one in my own family. My 2nd GGM, Mary Casey Hughes, and her brother, Mathew, were reunited in New Jersey after 44 years. #Genealogy #FamilyHistory

146 years ago today, my 2GGF died (Daniel O'Brien). Through newspapers and other records I've traced him through 3 Irish counties, and 6 parishes. The most surprising discovery was his photo in Bulawayo (now, in Zimbabwe). This memorial card preserved thanks to Kiwi 3Cs. #Genealogy #IrishGenealogy

Happy publication week! Delighted (& slightly terrified) my first book is out in the wild for everyone to read 😂 Had so much fun going down the rabbit hole researching these families and hope that’s evident on the page #histfam

Saint Brigid loved a bargain. She was always buying Imbolc.

#Genealogy A double 3rd cousin sent this photo of our GGMs' and 2GGM's birthplace (GGMs - Mary Anne and Eleanor; their mother Rose Anna b. c. 1830s). Ref 1901 Irish census, it had 6 rooms, 13 out-houses, and a cottage for farm labourers. In 1844 it was described as "rather old but in good repair"

Going through some old photos and found this one of a multi-generational family, c. 1890-1910s (I'm guessing based on the women's clothing). Since the photographer, J Henderson, operated from Patna & Maybole in Ayrshire, I presume that the family were also Scottish. #Genealogy #StormDay
