Room 808 in DC is an interesting space for comedy. Not sure about the creepy clown painting though.

Everyone who is an artist needs to look into subvert.fm NOW. We need to break free of corporate platforms, and this co-op provides an answer for musicians in the wake of a world where bandcamp was taken over and spotify is a pure dystopian nightmare. @subvert.fm

I was initially really critical of the #50501 movement. But I am seeing that sustainable organizing is there beyond just protesting, and that a key focus is getting people to run for office. I rescind any of my previous criticism. They get the core thing that is needed to make it sustainable.

I am going to be honest. Life is much easier when you community when things are awful politically speaking. I am very lucky to live in a place where I am spending time with cool people.

The @oberheim.com Oberheim OB-X8 with the @chasebliss.bsky.social generation loss pedal and a touch of delay and reverb maybe my new favorite thing. It's just plain awesome. Instant VHS horror soundtrack nostalgia.

So I got a couple of Fender FR-10s since my keyboard amp broke, and surprisingly they work absolutely great for synth stuff.

Someone who is without culture should not be in charge of something which is an institution of culture. I have seen Phillip Glass perform at the Kennedy Center. I have seen Andre 3000 perform there as well. I have seen Operas there too, both contemporary and classical.

The Deepseek bill is honestly the most dystopian bill I ever saw. Steep 20 year criminal charges for people downloading an open source piece of software you can run on your own machine (not on the Chinese service) is really terrifying. This bill criminalizes developers using Open Source software.

This is the first time in a long time the best new artist is actually the best new artist at the Grammys. Chappell Roan music is indeed fantastic, right there with some of the best ever in rock and pop right out of the gate.

Favorite synths, currently available, Top 5: 1. Sequential Prophet 10 2. Oberheim OB-X8 3. Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave 4. Elta Solar 42 5. Sequential Pro 3

A significant amount of building materials comes from Canada and Mexico. Canada especially because they provide a good percentage of lumber for the US market. Please keep this in mind as the US is recovering from multiple major disasters over the last six months.

I have been to Canada and Mexico on multiple occasions, and as an American I love those places, and appreciate my Canadian and Mexican friends. From the cold streets of Montreal in winter, to the heat and colorful art of Puerto Vallarta. They have pieces of my heart as well.

I am getting closer to bluesky being my only social media. I am purging accounts and the fact is we need to recognize that much of social media was a mistake. It tapped into people's worst instincts. Time to minimize and touch grass.

Like in all honesty, I am so glad I have a little escape in my home to just play music and ignore the world, because right now the world is a bit of a nightmare. Playing music on the other hand is delightful.

Factoid of the day. 36.4% of State Budgets depend on Federal grant funding. Mind you it's less for donor states like California (28.3%), but it is greater for primarily rural states like Alabama (43.1%). Municipal budgets also have a great deal of federal grant funding.

Never in my life have I been more happy that I am not in fact a Federal Government Employee.

So here is the thing with Deepseek. I will not sign up for the service for obvious reasons regarding privacy. I am talking about the open source project that you can load and control, and is not sending data anywhere. The service obviously presents potential security issues.

This is just a post to let people know, while I will mostly post about music and synthesizers, I will also post on tech topics occasionally as well.

Deepseek is already up and running on @raspberrypi.com cards. Which means it can potentially be used for robotics and other hardware applications. If it can run on this, just imagine what it can do on a more advanced board. Let's be blunt. Deepseek is an opportunity, not a loss for technology.
