Contrary to the pundit class’ insistence, someone talking to you on public transit has been so reviled for so long there was a painting about it 150 years ago

Vancouver Police won't be releasing further information tonight about the number of deaths or information about the driver from this evening's tragedy at Lapu Lapu Day. Says the driver was known to police, but says it would be inappropriate to say anything else tonight, promise more tomorrow.

As usual, @mssinenomine.bsky.social writes the best piece I've seen in months, on any topic. Read it; it's worth your time. "[E]very issue, every concern was Sisyphus “Still here. Still asking you to notice this rock called ableism.” And every experience was the same wave off: Not now. Not here."

I'm blocking people who send me replies that clearly have not read the post they are replying to. I took the time to write it. You can take the time to read it. Or you can just not reply if you don't want to read it. mssinenomineblog.wordpress.com/2025/04/24/c...

I saw this over and over again, when I worked at TED. Men in tech leadership truly think that they are the first to have any thought that pops into their head, that they are the best equipped to solve any problem in the world, and that their lack of experience or expertise is actually an asset.

Of course it is. Humans are making it. Humans have cultural biases. Source material has cultural biases. Hire Anthropologists. Sheesh, people. Duh.

Mark Carney mocked concern about plastic straw bans, declaring them unworthy of serious people's attention. Which means he mocked & belittled disabled people & our accessibility. And lots of 'smug & superior' folks joined in. It hurt. I wrote about it. mssinenomineblog.wordpress.com/2025/04/24/c...

Canadians! I have an assignment for you this weekend. What is THE MOST CANADIAN thing you own? It can be anything. A book, a garment, a food item, a tool, a decorative object, a cd, anything. #CanCon #Canada

Non-disabled people: Wow it must be so much work to wheel everywhere. Also non-disabled people: What do you mean we can't have our pretty cobblestones, paving stones or crushed gravel because it makes it harder for you to move on those surface? How dare you!

Paving stones make me apoplectic with rage because of this nonsense. I don't know who approved them as 'accessible' but I promise you it came from a definition of accessibility based on a wheelchair moving across them - NOT considering the body of the person in the wheelchair. The impact is 🚨pain.

Compacted gravel at its absolute best is far less accessible than pavement AND I have never encountered an example of compacted gravel maintained at its absolute best in the wild. When you use your arms to move you rely on one push =ing multiple rotations. Less smooth = less rotations/more work.

Gordon Campbell should never be allowed near public policy after attempting to impose time limits on social assistance in BC. A move that would have left thousands without any income at all and that was only halted at last minute after huge public outcry & advocacy to stop it.

Just purchased Unravelling MAiD in Canada: Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide as Medical Care. Sharing incase anyone else is interested, the e-book was $35.21 on Google books.

two hours after voting closed for a local byelection and zero results due to the multi-hour delays at understaffed polling stations across the city first election I’ve covered with a delay this long we should have results coming in relatively soon, but this is a new one

Currently in line at the 3rd voting place I’ve been to today. I couldn’t wait the 1-2 hours earlier so didn’t, but also not sure I’m going to be able to wait long enough to vote right now. It’s beyond infuriating. Completely unacceptable. #vanpoli

At Kerrisdale today, they were sending those of us with mobility aids to an alternate entrance with multiple stairs (!!!) My friend with invisible chronic health challenges wasn't offered the opportunity to use the priority access line. bsky.app/profile/mssi... #VancouverVotes #vanpoli #disability
