Canadians!
I have an assignment for you this weekend.
What is THE MOST CANADIAN thing you own?
It can be anything. A book, a garment, a food item, a tool, a decorative object, a cd, anything.

i did not follow the instructions printed on the side.
turns out that's also a good way to ensure that no one sits next to you on a long train trip. 😹
Iconic Canadian photography book by an iconic Canadian photographer;
and Hart, my principal work reference for several years
I have a little Canada pin, too. It was given to me when I worked at EXPO ‘86 in Vancouver. Lately I have started to wear it again on my jacket. 🇨🇦

ONE MILLION BITS OF WEIRD CANADIAN-ISH THINGS
Canadiens !
Je vous-donne un devoir ce week-end.
Quel est l'objet le plus canadien que vous possédez ?
Ça peut être n'importe quoi. Un livre, un vêtement, un aliment, un outil, un objet décoratif, un disque compact, n'importe quoi.

I really appreciate it.
It's not a starter pack, it's like a feed.
And it's a firehose of Canadians and everything they post, not filtered for any topics or hashtags.

Who knows wood better than beavers?!
Back in Ontario I have a mint-condition White Rose plastic bag. Lol
(Also I'm not a Canadian citizen but I'm hoping to remedy that soon)

Spirit of the West, Stan Rogers, and Shuffle Demons records? The Tragically Hip vinyl box set? A Furrnaceface hockey jersey from 1993 or so? Flannel lined canvas work pants from Mark's? A 1987 Dodge van camperized in Belleville, Quebec?
Took us to Haida Gwaii in 2019, which was INCREDIBLE.
- Stan Rogers's Northwest Passage CD
- Some number of seasons of Due South (forget if they're on videotape or DVD :-)
- Some Unibroue beer in the fridge, because I couldn't find Molson in my local stores.
They do have some questionable ones but the belgian wheat (blanche de chambly??) and tripel (la fin du monde) are both quite good. Maudite (a malty dark ale) is also pretty tasty imho.
The Saisons are where you get into questionable territory, in my experience.
I do have a bunch of Jean Paré's Company's Coming cookbooks, though, and they are superb.
We got rid of ours after too many layers of tape!
Does any of that count?
Great photo!
Before departure a number of these flew over the Toronto CNE June 1952, 413, 416, 421, 430 Squadrons
2 would be ready to counter USSR attack 24/7
The CF100 Canuck came into service by the mid 50s
By 1963 the nuclear capable CF104 Starfighter
All the aircraft were Canadian built near MTL or TO
My dad was a big Leafs fan, and NHL was priority TV in season, so I’ve listened to her music for as long as I can remember. Very cool to make a connection now, in this way.
It is one heck of an achievement, and recognition!
She went on to win a lot of awards for her compositions. But this was the only ‘prize’ she kept. I guess it was her first - that first ‘win’ is so valuable to making kids feel like anything is possible.
Having your potential recognized is hugely enabling.
Many, many thanks!
Looking forward to it!
I wonder if there's something like permineralization that can happen to asbestos minerals.
I miss The Ship.
Have a Ship Burger for me!
(We got MuchMusic/Fuse in Vermont when I was a kid, and you have no idea how many Canadian bands I thought were famous in the US that it turns out no one else here has ever heard of)

Also, GOB.
My first show was Billy Talent & Rise Against
Hilariously, my spouse's first show was ALSO Billy Talent & Rise Against. Same tour, other side of the country
My first concert as a teen was Alanis, with Our Lady Peace opening for her.
Back when Taylor Hawkins was still her drummer!

My mom's friend is the big Canadiana nut. I'll have to see if there's something absurdly Canadian that we ourselves have.
Stack of Canadian Tire bills
Chunks of SK Potash my kids used to get every year in school

¹ Or, as I used to say² at parades when I was the cadet in charge³, "Number 50 Lt. Col. Barker VC Squadron".
² Quite loudly.
³ Warrant Officer 1st Class.
I use it every day for my coffee.
My grandfather was a bush pilot Up North when airplanes were mostly just flying wood and fabric. My family has a collection of artefacts and "folk art" before that stuff was a valued thing.
A good chunk of that is already in museums.
... that was my grandfather, the pilot, and we had the second exposure from that film in a family archive with slightly different poses
I had all this except the turtle and butterfly!
I think I also had Jack to go with Jill, iirc.
Red Riding Hood was my favourite.
Community is still foundational, AND there for each other.
Frustrating.
Should not have happened.
My Blackberry.
Excellent reuse, too!
My dad had a Jack Daniels one.
Even when you have precisely the correct screwdriver size.
Best get it insured.
A stuffed moose, wearing a Habs jersey. I named him Maurice.
This Brian Mulroney campaign postcard, which is entirely in Chinese on the back, because the friend who defaced it was living in a studio space on Spadina Ave. at the time
Applicable.
And the public shaming accompanying it!
