Barriers.

This is one of the things I like best about cycling: I often get to chat with people at lights, when I pass them, or as we ride; sometimes strangers, sometimes friends or colleagues. It's much less isolating than driving.

The experiences of the Black miners of Nova Scotia’s industrial past reveal hidden racial dynamics at play. Read more about Aderinola Olamiju's research — and the 'striking' similarities to modern-day attitudes toward immigrant labourers: thenarwhal.ca/nova-scotia-...

Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users. ALL ROAD USERS. And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them. Via @usa.streetsblog.org @nyc.streetsblog.org

Oops, was that an earthquake just now? (Vancouver, BC)

I hate people sometimes. Someone dumped a big stinky garbage bag in front of our back gate last night. The birds have ripped it apart so I can see that it's full of food waste, & recyclables. So gross. Garbage pickup isn't for 13 more days & this bag will nearly fill our small garbage cart.

ABC is running Ralph Kaisers in this by-election. Here's what I've got to say about that:

“Bicycles offer a number of advantages in express delivery operations: they can bypass traffic congestion and make up to two times as many stops per hour than a delivery vehicle. The total cost of ownership over their lifetime is less than half that of a van.” - John Pearson, CEO, DHL Express Europe

We chose in part to raise our kids in Canada because they’re much safer from gun violence here than in the U.S. The last thing I want to see on city council is someone using NRA talking points. By-election turnout is always very low—if you live in Vancouver, PLEASE vote & keep this guy off council.

Online shopping pet peeve: "Ooh, an email that says my order has shipped!" *Checks tracking* Tracking says they've *created a label* "Okay, I'll check tomorrow, it's still early." Four days later, SAME MESSAGE. Why do they do this? Sitting there in a warehouse, with a label, IS NOT SHIPPED.
