🥳 Today is my birthday! 🎂 If you'd like to help me celebrate, here's a page of organizations that could use some support! www.astrokatie.com/birthday

All kidding aside, the biggest reason to keep Poilievre out of Parliament is to change the tone. We can't operate as a civil nation when one party leader exists only to attack the other. Civil debates and factual discussions, not personal attacks and three-word slogans, please.

Say it after me: Chat GPT is not a search engine. It does not scan the web for information, it just generates statistically likely sentences. You cannot use it a search engine, or as a substitute for searching. Now. Please never use an LLM for information searches ever again.

Everyone keeps saying that we vote for MPs rather than the prime minister, and technically it's true! But this election suggests that in practice that idea has broken. We need electoral reform, and I for one would like to see a kind that gives more room for smaller parties and independent voices.

NONE OF THIS REPLACES A NATIONAL FOOD SAFETY REGULATORY APPARATUS

I could be wrong about this but I really think most Americans do not want to be forced to “do their own research” about food & drug & product safety and would rather that the government agencies that have been sorting that all out for them for decades not be obliterated in the name of “efficiency.”

Today: I talked to one of my absolute heroes, @deborahb.bsky.social, about RFK Jr., how the US got food purity laws, the wild west of American food in the 19th century... and how to avoid going back to the days of formaldehyde milk and brick-dust spices. buttondown.com/theswordandt...

DEDICATED TO THE TROLLS AND BOTS 🇨🇦

I worked the election in Canada yesterday. The care and attention to detail with keeping ballots and voter information safe and secure before, during and after the vote, not to mention making the election day process easy for voters, is an impressive logistics masterpiece. 🇨🇦

Congrats to Canada on picking a Liberal government and rejecting the stink of Trumpism! Elbows up!

I don’t always campaign on the taxpayers’ dime full-time for three years and still lose the election, but when I do, I lose my own seat in Parliament too.

Any minority government must result in an agreement for proportional representation. It's time to safeguard our democracy against authoritarianism. #Election2025

Please highlight this story. ICE stormed into the wrong house, trashed the place, and made women/girls stand outside in the rain in their underwear. ICE also stole phones, laptops, and cash savings from the family, who moved to OKC two weeks ago. kfor.com/news/local/w...

Don't use the polls as an excuse not to vote. In the last provincial election in Alberta, one riding was decided by only 25 votes and another by 42 votes.

Dear next Canadian PM. Can we please explore some kind of limited EU membership? I would love to have the shield of GDPR, the EU consumer protections, right to repair, and teeth in the game going after big tech monopolies and their destructiveness. Thanks. #cdnpoli

If you’ve always voted NDP, we get it — it’s a tough choice to make. But in this election, the stakes are too high to risk splitting the vote. Our environment, our healthcare, and our future depend on strong, progressive leadership. Together, we can build the just, sustainable Canada we believe in.

TALK POLITICS... IT'S THE POLITE THING TO DO

Using ChatGPT to "save time" in research is like if I, a chemistry teacher, need to prepare solutions for a lab, but I just grab random chemicals off the shelf and create solutions, then painstakingly test each solution to see if it's what I want. "Is this NaOH? No? Ok try again."

Among my regular passengers on the 44 are two young boys who ride with their grandma from California and 6th Ave all the way to Silver and Palou. The older brother is possibly a 2nd grader. Last night as they were getting off my bus, he handed me this hand made envelope.

Reminder that words matter. You can’t “deport” a US citizen. You might be kidnapping, disappearing, exiling, expelling, illegally removing, etc., but you’re not “deporting” a US citizen.

For what it’s worth, here’s the editorial I sent the Globe and Mail April 5. The Globe took a pass. Balancing Individual Rights and Community Health Requires Knowledge of History

Say. This.

More important than buying Canadian. More important than boycotting America and its products. More important than boycotting Tesla. It’s getting the non-Con vote to the polls and make damn sure every single one votes. That’s the REAL challenge I’m throwing down for Canada. #cdnpoli #elxn45

Whoa… this kid has it figured out (and they can write)

An autism "registry" culled from private medical records could potentially violate federal privacy laws and runs the risk of abuse. It also harkens back to a time when disabled people were labeled, segregated, and excluded. We won't go back.

Canadians need to get out and vote! Canada, child care, dental care, OAS, CPP, health care, our military, workers rights, our economy, housing, the CBC, gun control. If any one of these is important to you don’t vote CPC - vote LPC! Mark Carney has a viable plan. The other guy has nothing. 🍁🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦

This account, @un-manuscripts.bsky.social, sucks ass and you should block them. This is a cruel and shitty thing to do to writers who have no power in the publishing world, done by a person with much more power. This is punching down and it sucks.

Toxicologist here! This will improve the health of zero Americans. Current synthetic food dyes are not causing health problems, and are often times used because they are actually safer than natural food dyes. Reminder that guns are the #1 cause of death of children but we are going to ban food dyes.

If I were on the spectrum, I would despise RFK Jr. because of the way he talks about autistic people. I would want to tell him, "I am not flawed. I am not injured. I am not less." It's disgusting the way he talks about them. Almost everyone I know on the spectrum are decent people.

hmm i don't like that this 5 month old thread has regained popularity i also don't think food companies have suddenly gotten more ethical since the 1800s

never forget that we’re currently facing total economic destruction because fox news got upset about 0.0001% of our population wanting equal rights

I sure hope people aren't falling for the NDP and Bloc's attempt to convince them that the Liberals are for sure going to win, so they should vote for us. No, the polls are not votes, and they are tightening. Please don't take any chances, we need to all stand together for this election! 1/

I guarantee you, you get any member of the conservative caucus alone in a room and you ask them who is the last man on Earth who should be put in charge of reforming democracy? And they will tell you Pierre Poilievre. Rick Mercer #cdnpoli #elxn2028 www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqpW...

Just a reminder, if you are in the line when a poll closes, you will be allowed to vote. Voting will take as long as necessary to let all in line vote. #CanadaVotes

During the last week of the U.S. election, I was confident and kept saying, 'How nice it'll be not to see that disgusting liar's ugly face anymore.' But we know what happened. So, I won't say it about PP, but I'm sure as hell thinking it and wishing it, I'm so terrified the same will happen here.

The Venn diagram of policy proposals that would encourage people to have more kids by making it more affordable and safe, and policies that the GOP have been fighting against for decades, makes a single circle.

Elections Canada is truly world class and we need to both value and protect that institution

They had lawyers, trials, most were given pretrial release, allowed to testify in their own defense, got discovery, could call witnesses, could cross-examine witnesses, could present mitigation at sentencing, and had a right to appeal.

It’s advance voting long weekend. Don’t rely on the polls — vote!

WATCH — @carolecadwalla.bsky.social : “The Russian and American presidents are now speaking the same words. Telling the same lies. We are watching the collapse of the international world order in real time… it is already later than we think.”

🇨🇦Liberals need to ignore the pollsters, just get out and vote, encourage friends, families and neighbours to do likewise. In every riding. Every vote counts, and lots of ridings will be really close! 🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁
