MGI's Elizabeth Ottosen and Ritam Sinha have a new paper out in mBio about their new neonatal mouse model which will help better study infections in human infants. Using that model, they found evidence that E. hormaechei feeds on mucus in the intestines. tinyurl.com/5598z3w7

MGI's Ned Walker is currently on his way to Zanzibar to work with the Gates Foundation on a groundbreaking malaria control initiative. They're using AI & drone imagery to id mosquito breeding sites across East Africa. He sent this picture of Mts. Kilimanjaro and Meru from his flight.

New research from MGI Assistant Professor Wei Wang & a team from Univ. of Wisconsin out in PLOS Pathogens. Their research validated a WHIM mouse model and demonstrated that CXCR4-mutated immune cells caused their increased susceptibility to HPV-like infections. Read more here: tinyurl.com/bdfpd289

Yesterday, MGI hosted David Alland of Rutgers University for our annual Whittam Lecture. His talk was about how the genetic diversity of M. tuberculosis populations poses a significant health challenge while simultaneously opening new avenues for drug development.
