This is my favorite picture of Stonewall. They knew they were getting arrested just for being LGBTQ+. Yet... they're still here, standing outside of the boarded up Stonewall Inn, smiling as the world was at a fever pitch of hatred against them. I think about it a lot in moments like this.

I’m not saying Jane Goodall is unimpressive, but I am saying that I can watch a squirrels in my backyard for hours and I think I, too, would have been really great at watching primates for long periods of time. Mammals that are not dumb humans are mesmerizing.

At the risk of oversharing, I have been very close to a very suicidal minor for the past few years. I have done all the things. Called suicide hotline. Referred to social workers. Connected with his family. Joined his caseworkers’ meetings. Visited in psych ward. Called cops when it felt imminent.

I wonder how many journalists are not even conscious of the passes they give Trump. People have had a lot of practice shutting off the parts of themselves that once were brave enough to hold bullies accountable (peers, siblings, fathers).
