I bet they did

secrets of game UI designers they DON'T want you to know

I'm used to a lot of George's talk about having everything planned out from the start being bullshit, so I never expected the 1980-era talk about The Emperor having hired a planet of Mandalorian Shockforce Troopers to wipe out the Jedi during the Clone Wars to actually be kind of on the nose.

Goodness! Wow! Amazing! Fantastic! Good? Damn! Sheesh! <sex sound> Fuckin' balls!

Man do I have some news about traditional country music.

Isuzu.

I'll be at Indie Island at Heroescon this weekend, table ii-1194. I'll have that new Godzilla zine and errything.

👀

this is a sith lightsaber, from the war. I keep it on a shelf right next to my stormtrooper armor and imperial officer’s uniform. I’ve even got a verified chunk of the death star from yavin. I’m just a collector. I just think the history is interesting. no, I don’t have any rebel stuff

It's Juneteenth! Here are some zines I made at the local Juneteenth Market and at a Seeing Other People Photography workshop I helped put on! I love my people, I love myself, and I love zines! 1/2

Can’t recommend the Resident Evil Archives book enough if you like doing lots of research for an upcoming article/want to feel your blood pressure rising at the sight of ALL THE CRANKS

In retrospect, Portlandia was an asshole show It careened in at the height of a culture to sneer & convince everyone it was worthless bullshit, while profiting off that same culture & its accelerated death Shit, man, it was ok for young people to learn how to knit, smoke meats, & care about others

i maintain that all of this can be traced back to the explosion of AAA budgets. higher fidelity means games become more expensive which means they must be designed to appeal to the largest possible audience. i think playtesting can be a good thing but not when it's used to file off every edge.

Here's the ad with the scandalous, SCANDALOUS I SAY, anti-Superman bias.

Via Randy Lander, who understands.

"Neon Ichiban"

*kicks open your front door, breathlessly* the guy that wrote "spooky scary skeletons" also wrote the golden girls theme song

Sometimes your bsky notices feel like the opening line of a short story you never got around to finishing.

this sponsored ig ad is the exact plot of every sci fi movie about replacing humans with replicants

The NES version of Shinobi lets you know what you’re in for right from the title screen. This is a Joe Musashi who has seen some shit

I was always bummed by the long-abandoned-but-still-pristine midcentury lunch counter sitting in the dark whenever I’d bum around here in the 90s, and the whole WWII restaurant moldering the dark in the basement was even creepier.

At this point, just patching in a traditional 3-lap “classic” mode would get a lot of people excited, though that would be running completely contrary to trying to get people more interested in the interconnected world (and speaks to how badly they fucked that part up).

It *is* weird that, 2 weeks after release, the only footage from Mario Kart World that’s gone viral is how aggressive the AI is with shells, and even that died down pretty quickly immediately after release.

I have downloaded Squeakcross and I think I've found my dopamine for the next several months. Highly recommend if you love Picross and Animal Crossing.

the destruction of chattel slavery is one of the great accomplishments in our nation's history and the reason conservatives hate celebrating it is because doing so legitimizes the black counter-narrative of the united states

One of the biggest problems with the world is that fools are always so sure and certain about everything and intelligent people are so full of doubts and uncertainties.

I screened this at work years ago. I regret nothing.

i think we've all had eras like this

Liu Heung Shing, 1989, Jianguomenwai Bridge, Beijing, 23.6 x 19.7 (inch)

Jun 19th 2084 - After Douglas Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger) removes a tracking device buried deep in his head, he travels to Mars disguised as a woman. 📽️📅 Total Recall (1990)
