“nobody saw this coming” = “we considered everyone who saw this coming a nobody”

Yes. While there are absolutely things Democrats can and must do to slow, obstruct, etc, GOP hold both House and Senate majorities, severely limiting our options. Johnson and Thune are handing over the own keys and relinquishing their own power. Even for the cynics this should be a shock.

The Trump admin has revoked Temporary Protected Status for more than 300,000 Venezuelans in the United States. As I have been saying for months: Trump is not only going after undocumented people. He's also "de-documenting" people who are here and working *legally* www.nytimes.com/2025/02/02/u...

Sorry, but no. A few hammered this. The media as a whole hammered inflation & a nonexistent recession for years, platformed famous economists to mislead you about Biden/ARP causing all the global inflation, & totally erased these obvious consequences of Trump’s policies from headlines all thru 2024.

I know that everything seems hopeless right now, but if you're looking for SOMETHING concrete to do besides doomscrolling, a reminder that there's over 2 dozen special elections coming up including a state Supreme Court race and at least 2 U.S. House seats. secure.actblue.com/donate/speci...

We cannot mince words about what it would mean to confirm RFK Jr. to our highest health official: elevating him and his anti-science views could have deadly consequences—even before he lifts a finger. He is wholly unfit & unqualified to lead HHS.

SOS Steve Hobbs reminds us to stick to trusted sources for election info as Meta will no longer provide fact-checking moderation. We can rely on WA state and county election offices for accurate and trustworthy info to ensure our elections are free and fair! www.chronline.com/stories/secr...

Washingtonians are benefiting thanks to the Biden-Harris administration! ✅ 272k gained health insurance ✅ $2.5 BILLION in student debt canceled for 49k people ✅ 1.5 MILLION Medicare seniors saving on prescription drugs

Thanks to President Biden, Washington is progressing in clean energy and infrastructure! From $1B for the Pacific NW Hydrogen Hub to $2B for the I-5 bridge, plus investments in EV chargers, solar energy, and more!

People always tell introverts to be more talkative and leave their comfort zones, yet no one tells extroverts to shut up and make the zone comfortable

4 years ago, I was locked down in the Capitol. When the majority of the Republicans voted to overturn the election AFTER the attack, something broke in Congress that still hasn’t healed. Truth is truth. And while it should never be partisan to defend democracy, we can’t pretend it isn’t.

They often don’t report, investigate, analyze, explain, etc as much as tell stories. Stories can enhance or illustrate, but by themselves they’re just “some guy [who we probably know through our elite networks or we found because we’re lazy] has a strongly-held, uninformed, & dumb fucking opinion”

👇🧵 There were always, & still remain, only 2 solutions here, & both involve a minority of <Republicans> deciding they value democracy more than power & allying with Democrats to save the Republic. The rest, including expecting Merrick Garland or the Courts to save us, were never serious options.

President Biden will take action to protect the entire U.S. East coast, the eastern Gulf of Mexico, Pacific off the coasts of Washington, Oregon, and California, and additional portions of the Northern Bering Sea in Alaska from future oil and natural gas leasing. www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-roo...

Today, @housedemocrats.bsky.social will vote to certify the results of the 2024 election.
Because we are democracy believers, not election deniers.    Because we will always honor the will of the people, not bow to the dictates of one man.

Inflation hitting every country after a pandemic that disrupted the economy in every country means the cause of inflation was not any US policy. The US curbing inflation further and faster than any other developed economy means US economic policy was a success. It's really not he said/she said.

The US doesn’t have universal healthcare because its white population doesn’t want the non white population to have access to it. Overcome that and you’ll have universal healthcare.

President Biden is expected to permanently ban new oil and gas drilling in large sections of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, as well as other federal waters. The move relies on a 70-year-old law that could make it difficult for the Trump administration to reverse it.

Ten years on, and they still can’t say “lied” & will still circle the wagons every time someone criticizes them about the total unfitness of their model of journalism for dealing with a far right authoritarian party

Every time elected Dems do right by the American people on health care, American voters punish them for it. And yet Dems persist on doing the right thing (thank goodness 🙂).

New report finds: "The Inflation Reduction Act could deliver over $2.7 trillion in net benefits from 2025 to 2035, against $656 billion in costs."

Spread the word: the Medicare prescription drug cost cap is in effect NOW. I was in Seattle today with Rep. Kim Schrier to make sure WA state seniors know about this automatic change that caps out of pocket drug costs for Medicare at $2,000 per year—& that every Republican voted against.

One under-appreciated, under-discussed explanation for Trump winning is simply that the people who voted for him believed a wide array of false things. The mainstream commentariat's refusal to center information rot has led to much confusion. Highly recommend this piece from @karlbode.com:

This issue highlights exactly how the media treats the 2 parties totally differently: Dems: someone, somewhere, on the left said/did something, & now it is forever The Party's official stance/problem GOP: 3-5 GOP politicians are actually deficit hawks, & now it is The Party's immutable reputation

A good time to remember how folks thought this election's economy was worse than...1980 🧐 Nov 1980: - Inflation (CPI): 12.6% - Unemployment: 7.5% - MI consumer sentiment: 76.7 - Real gas price ($2020): $4.62 Nov 2024: - Inflation: 2.7% - Unemployment: 4.2% - Sentiment: 71.8 - Real gas price: $3.06

Starting TODAY, a key provision of the Inflation Reduction Act goes into effect: Limiting annual out-of-pocket spending on prescription drugs to $2,000 for Medicare beneficiaries. 19 million people are expected to save an average of $400 each.

As President, Jimmy Carter signed the Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978 and American Indian Religious Freedom Act. By @nativenewsonline.bsky.social nativenewsonline.net/currents/for...

I can’t think of a better way to honor Jimmy Carter than donating to Habitat for Humanity. He and Rosalynn first began volunteering with the nonprofit in 1984 — 3 years after leaving the White House. They volunteered every year until 2020, eventually helping to build and repair 4,390 Habitat homes.

Jimmy Carter was born before the New Deal. Before the electrification of the south. More than two decades before Jackie Robinson broke the color line in baseball. He was 30 when Brown v Board was decided. He was 44 when MLK was assassinated. After his presidency, he had a 42 year retirement.

Once again, whatever you think about whether Joe Biden caused all the inflation or where it might go next, the data clearly indicate it’s no longer “high” & obviously wasn’t “permanent.” In fact, we are closer now to the Fed’s actual PCE target than we’ve been for nearly the entire time it’s existed

Thank you, President Biden & Democrats.

"There is so much repellently sleazy behavior documented in the House Ethics Committee report about Matt Gaetz that a reader has to stop every few pages to look away and focus on what still seems astounding: This is the man that Donald Trump wanted to be the attorney general of the United States"

The Post manages to write a whole story on the narrative that Spanbarger's under assault from the left without a single quote from a Democrat saying so. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...

Unfortunately, I don't subscribe to the Post anymore, since it couldn't decide whether to endorse the would-be-fascist or the center-left democrat. But I do hope this piece at least actually wrestles with the primary reason why Bidenomics failed to deliver at the polls: bsky.app/profile/mcop...

Eight years later, we're still waiting for the first "Black Biden/Harris voters in urban diners" article, but do enjoy this latest round of articles with the landed gentry chapter of the Leopards Eating People's Faces Party.

This flew under the radar in last week's shutdown fight, but Republicans have basically unwound all of Biden's investment in tax enforcement. The CR clawed back $20 billion from the IRS after GOP in Congress revoked another $20 billion last year. If the IRS hasn't spent the money yet, it's gone.

Anyone get the feeling we’ve been played?

(sigh)

If only there were space on the front pages of this publication to have discussed the actual substance of Trump's policies, & other important issues related to his candidacy, in the many months leading up to the 2024 election 🤔🤷‍♂️ bsky.app/search?q=fro...

One of Trump’s superpowers: The crazy dangerous stuff he says is either normalized immediately (he is “considering expansion,” and isn’t that what an incoming president is supposed to do, consider policy changes?!) or quickly dismissed as not serious (just Trump being Trump!). And on and on and on.
