Trump will find a way to selectively enforce the deportation actions to benefit his loyal subjects and hurt his political enemies. Leopards won't be eating central valley land owner faces.

Even if he tries to apply ruthless deportation selectively, these farmers are going to lose labor. They made the trade, they preferred authoritarianism over economic success.

I doubt Central CA will lose labor much at all. Labor will flee from high enforcement zones to low enforcement zones. They may have to find a way to funnel more money to Trump to prove their loyalty, but their labor supply will be spared.

Like, we did all this with the tariffs & farmers in the Midwest. And we did it in all the other places in 2017-21. We don't need to do it again. We get it. They voted racism, misogyny, xenophobia, & identity politics. They chose poorly. We should treat them as agents with autonomy.

The only value in an article like this, in 2024, is if journalists are going to ask direct, hard questions of these people to make them to articulate why they made the choices they did. Simply reporting on their belated voters' remorse is uninteresting & not at all useful. We know all this already.

Tho to say they are agents with autonomy is only part of the story. The effects on elections of the billionaire agents with autonomy who have immersed the nation in Right Wing disinformation--to which any1 can be vulnerable--need to also be considered

I think that democratic party members should stop trying to shield these assholes from the consequences. Blue states will enjoy their autonomy, red states will do whatever they voted for. They will not understand and will complain that the "eebil demonrats" did it, but they would anyway so fuck'em
