DOGE enters ATF with mandate to slash gun regulations.
DOGE is working with ATF general counsel to cut upwards of 50 regulations by July 4 as the administration drastically reduces the number of inspectors. www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

Jeff Bezos is worth $230 billion and is reportedly spending $20 million on a three-day wedding in Venice while sailing around on his $500 million yacht. If he can afford to do that, he can afford a wealth tax and to pay Amazon workers a living wage. Hello?

House Republicans are trying to gut the Government Accountability Office—the nonpartisan agency that’s spent decades exposing waste, fraud, and abuse across the federal government. GAO has worked with Congress for years to make government more efficient and accountable. (1/2)

one of the reasons the US is an empire in decline is because it could never fully reckon with and reconcile its anti-Black racism. it has destroyed itself because harming itself means that it also harms Black people.

Where is DOGE when you need it?

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Juneteenth teaches us that freedom is not just a declaration, but a promise that must be fulfilled for everyone. As we celebrate, let’s reflect on the struggles that continue and renew our collective responsibility to build a more just, inclusive, and united society for generations to come.

Powell just spoke about cutbacks at federal statistical agencies and how that could affect Fed's ability to do its job

The new modified-modified Taylor Rule: Interest rates should be set according to how nice or nasty the president is to the Fed chair. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

New OPM memo just dropped and it's a doozy as usual, with plenty of digs at feds. But the most disturbing parts have to do with the new Schedule Policy/Career classification that has not been formalized yet... they're now saying the quiet parts out loud. 😡 federalnewsnetwork.com/wp-content/u...

The GEO Group doesn't just operate detention centers; it also has ICE contracts for the transportation and surveillance of immigrants.

A top House Democrat is asking Microsoft for information about a DOGE staffer's GitHub account connected to whistleblower allegations of sensitive data leaving the National Labor Relations Board.

“I’m an American citizen,” Brian Gavidia said he told the agent at least three times. Despite his responses, the agent pushed him into a metal gate, put his hands behind his back and asked him what hospital he was born in. www.latimes.com/politics/sto...

The House version of this bill had a loophole that might’ve let federal courts require $1 bond for civil rights plaintiffs. Senate Republicans not only closed it but beefed up the requirement to effectively outlaw preliminary injunctions for all but the richest litigants. Insanity.

Former Rep. Billy Long has been confirmed as the new head of the IRS. While in Congress, Long tried to abolish the agency. He's one of many Republicans who wants the IRS to lose capacity so that the rich can get away with paying fewer taxes. apnews.com/article/bill...

It was never going to be only Los Angeles. Curious to see how people respond to a red state occupation.

Please share this far and wide ‼️

Buried deep in the BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL lurk threats to override A.I. regulation, consumer protections & labor laws related to emerging technologies. According to AP, the typical pay package for S&P 500 CEOs rose to $17M last year — an increase of 9.7%. At half of the companies surveyed, it would take the median worker 192 years to make what the CEO did in one year.  This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged.

Pretty wild to make your entire case about how immigrants are lawless freeloaders, but having to go to their workplaces and court hearings to arrest them.

this @adambonica.bsky.social piece deserves to be read beside the yeoman work that @donmoyn.bsky.social and @pamherd.bsky.social have been doing. The dismantling of administrative expertise is one of those stories that is so big that pro journalists with beats find it hard to focus on or explain .

I had not seen this WSJ article from earlier this week. The 1st Amendment violation admitted in the last paragraph of this passage would be too obvious to use on a law school exam. www.wsj.com/us-news/educ...

Why is this not front-page news? Where is the outrage and alarm?

To be clear, this shields any research coming out of the NIH from independent peer review, which gives him total control to spread propaganda and makes any NIH study completely untrustworthy.

Hidden in the Republican budget bill: a provision to do away with all oversight on AI systems with rent fixing algorithms. If your rent starts to go up, Republicans are to blame.

Massachusetts decided to tax the rich, and collected $2.6 billion over the last 10 months. That’s $2.6 billion more to spend on transportation and education.

All of you are poor. These hypothetical poor people everyone is discussing are us. We’re poor. Idc if you make 6 figures or not. You’re poor too.

A FedEx board member will now be running the USPS. That’s going to entirely predictable places.

Interesting piece which reveals a lot of the tech bro ignorance of government: DOGEr comes in, expects to find lots of inefficiency, is at least willing to acknowledge he was wrong unlike the hard core ideologues.

So the border with Canada is an “artificial line” that was “drawn with a ruler” and should be erased. But the border with Mexico needs military patrolling and a wall. Got it.

Hours after the Trump administration proposed eliminating the National Endowment for the Arts from next year's federal budget, hundreds of arts groups in the U.S. were told their grants were canceled.

Thank you to all of the senators, representatives, and journalists who are sharing the stories of RIF’d employees 💙

Want a tangible way to resist? Here's your homework. Follow the instructions in this super guide from our amazing friends at @fedworkersunited.bsky.social to comment by May 23 on the proposed Schedule F rule, which would remove civil service protections for a huge swath of the federal workforce.

Let's talk about mine safety real quick. There have been 12 mine fatalities so far in 2025. In the same period in 2024, there were 5. So while the administration is making cuts at MSHA and delaying the implementation of the much-needed silica rule, the number of miners dying has more than doubled.
