If people really find this to be such an easy conclusion, then Congressional authority should be easy to get. So why don’t they insist on a vote? They know this isn’t “progressive” resistance. They want to marginalize it as such because on top of this war being ILLEGAL, it’s also deeply unpopular.

Serious FOMO at #Evol2025 The broadcasted opening plenary by @jbyoder.org, "No data speaks for itself—but with data, we can speak for ourselves", was excellent! So much great & important stuff. I especially appreciated the presentation of social science methods to natural scientists on Queer in STEM

Kicking off #evol2025 #evol25 with an important message from @jbyoder.org The future of evolutionary research requires, as a matter of justice, a community as diverse as the organisms we study 🐞🐡🐝🪲🐟🪻🍇

Dear all, Helen passed away at 13:21 local time. Helen would not have wanted us to be sad for a long time. All they wanted was to be remembered. They looked forward to being rid of pain and to being at rest. Helen took great comfort in you, their friends and readers. pt. 1/2

Don’t miss Jeremy Yoder’s IDEA Award Talk in-person or online Friday June 20 at 7 PM Eastern: “No data speaks for itself — but with data, we can speak for ourselves.” In person and live-streamed for all #Evol2025 registrants! @evolmtg.bsky.social @jbyoder.org‬

Are you here at #evol2025? Our DEIC committee works hard all year long on student travel awards and a variety of projects to support diverse systematists. If you care about this too, consider applying to SSB’s DEI committee! Got questions? Find any SSB councillor and ask about this role.

Grad student members of @asn-amnat.bsky.social at #Evol2025 please come to the ASN grad student mixer on Sunday at lunch and meet other ASN members and learn what we do for you!

Even when they try to crush DEI, here's a reminder that evidence-based teaching promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion, regardless of the labels we choose. 🧪🌎 #academicsky

This is awesome work! Also, I'm biased, but I'm loving the empirical support for holding conferences in the great lakes region :)

I just have to say, as a historian of the Reconstruction-era Klan, that masked paramilitaries are very bad and masked vigilantes are even worse and there are causal links between the two and none of this is good for democracy.

call me crazy but I don't think we should.

I'm incredibly honored to receive the IDEA Award, and I can now confirm that I have written a whole talk for this, and it may even make sense AND fit in the allotted time. Definitely at least two of those things.

Sneaky salmon? Gay frogs? Scientists studying animal behavior have long projected specific cultural norms and values onto animals — and that, Ambika Kamath and Melina Packer argue, can lead us badly astray. HEAT DEATH is proud to publish an extended excerpt of their new book, FEMINISM IN THE WILD!

Incredible turnout for the #NoKings protest in Los Angeles!

I love you Seattle. #abolishice #nokings

Live look at Detroit, Michigan. Let's go, Motor City! Even Fox's streaming channel is calling the No Kings Day rallies "massive." 🍿

Here’s a New York Times photo of the Chicago “No Kings” rally. NYT said the march that followed spanned at least 10 blocks.

Holy shit, New York! Here’s the full view. #NoKings #50501Movement

Dallas, Texas police estimate there are 10,000 people attending the "No Kings" protest on Saturday. #NoKings #Dallas #Texas

great reminder to all of those Democrats and liberals saying that we need to abandon red states because they are gerrymandered into right wing autocracies where the vote isn’t in their favor instead of accepting that we are gonna have to fight for every American no matter where they are.

HAPPENING NOW: A sea of protesters have gathered in Ann Arbor, Michigan for a “No Kings Day” rally against Donald Trump (Video: WXYZ-TV)

The day started with tragedy with political violence in MN and instead of being scared, neighbors SHOWED UP to stand together at No Kings Twin Cities. We packed the Capitol Mall all the way to the Cathedral. Estimate 80,000+ right now. So proud of our state. #nokings #indivisible

A Democratic Mayor arrested. A Democratic Congresswoman indicted. A Democratic Senator tackled and detained. A Democratic State Representative killed. A Democratic State Representative in critical condition. We can all see where this is going.

Melissa Hortman, who was assassinated last night, was the Speaker of the Minnesota House in the 2023-2024 session, when Democrats ran the state government. That means she had a leading role in shepherding the many landmark reforms that Dems adopted in that period—an important legacy. Brief 🧵.

My June newsletter is out today on Native America! Access to healthcare for Native Americans is on the chopping block. Cuts to an already underfunded system threaten to make things worse. Full post:

The impacts of cutting EMA are far-reaching and will affect many different people and institutions across the West.

I was in Alaska less than 24 hours before I heard that Alaska Natives are genetically more susceptible to drug and alcohol abuse. I can't find the study right now (in the field), but that has been disproven. So, like, stop spreading that plz?
