Utah's Jane Hedengren is taking advantage of being at sea level. Three days after breaking the high school 5,000m record, she breaks the mile record as well. She runs 4:26.14, a big PR, and wins the race by 14+ seconds. She said she was hoping for the 5K record, but the mile was a surprise.

No surprise but super impressive. Jane Hedengren runs the fastest 5,000m ever by a U.S. high school girl, winning Nike Indoor Nationals in 15:13.26. Rylee Blade stuck with her until the kick and ran 15:16.72. Hedengren took 15 seconds off of the indoor record and also bettered the outdoor record.

My background music today as I work on freelance assignments. Two more days til this bucket list concert 🎸🎵

Really looking forward to outdoor track season. Idaho showed out at Simplot Games. Unfortunately couldn't make it there in person due to my day job, but I appreciate Highland's Spencer Van Orden for following up about his U.S. No. 6 60m hurdles time. idahosports.com/blogs/blog.a... #idpreps

High school senior Jane Hedengren ran a 9:37.50 3200m at the Simplot Games today. The meet is in Pocatello, Idaho, 4,460 feet above sea level. (Also, that doesn't look like the world's best indoor track.) That's nuts. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxG4...

12:44.09!!! INDOOR 5000M WORLD RECORD BY GRANT FISHER!! WOW!!! The previous indoor 5000m record was 12:49.60 by Kenenisa Bekele in 2004. That's two world records in the past week for him. HE DID THAT.

@torrayyyyy.bsky.social belated bday gift to myself arrived a few days late but I'm excited to play it. I only learned a few years ago that Stevie's Happy Birthday was part of an effort to make MLK Jr day a federal holiday and this album includes the song and this message in the liner notes.

Newly crowned FIS downhill world champ from Victor is wearing a neck warmer from her home resort, Jackson Hole. What a journey back from serious injury and missing out on the 2022 Olympic team.

Never saw Les Miserables when it was in theaters, although I heard a lot about the soundtrack from theater/musical friends. Finally watched it tonight. What an incredibly depressing 2.5 hours of my life.

Birthday gift from my Idaho family arrived somewhat belated, but it is here! One of my favorite Tom Hanks movies and favorite soundtracks 🎵🥁🎸

The world is on fire right now--literally and figuratively--but I had a nice break last night and had a belated birthday dinner with some of my favorite people

What a horrific day for US Figure Skating.

And now have official word that Dick Button has died at age 95. As his longtime friend Jirina Ribbens said to me, "We lost young skaters and we lost the man who single-handedly made skating in America."

Absolutely tragic.

So beings another trip around the sun. Ever since I got a turntable nine years ago, I've played albums on my birthday from the year Dad was the age I'm turning. He used to call me on my bday and this attempts to make up for that ever since he died. Today's selections are from 1983, when he was 36

Happy early birthday to me. For the second time in less than 10 years, I've been summoned to jury duty. 🙄Why can't they pick on people with nice, cozy, salaried office jobs? If I don't work in February, I'll lose insurance and possibly my job. I also resume job No. 2 in February

I love pigeons. Especially because they walk like this.

My birthday is in five days and I have never felt less enthusiastic than I do this year.

@torrayyyyy.bsky.social how did Tedrick like the snow??

I read an abbreviated version of Letter from Birmingham Jail in high school. Until today, I'd never read the full letter, which is published in Martin Luther King Jr's book Why We Can't Wait. All of this 🔥👐

Watching this tonight because...reasons.

Been reading this all weekend in attempts to better educate myself about the man who is constantly quoted on this day, often out of context. Not even halfway through this book and have learned so much more than I ever did in school. #MLKJrDay

Freezing fog this morning

'To look at everything always as though you were seeing it either for the first or last time: Thus is your time on earth filled with glory.' Began the New Year by reading my absolute favorite work of fiction. I've read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn every year since I was 14 and wrote a book report on it
